Virginia Tech at Boston College

Virginia Tech (4-6, 2-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) looks to get a step closer to bowl eligibility today with a road tilt at Boston College (2-8, 1-5). Kickoff is set for 12:29 p.m. with television by the ACC Network.

Frank Beamer is 14-6 all-time against Boston College and the Hokies have won four straight.

The Hokies lead the overall series with the Eagles, 14-6, won last year's game 30-14 in Blacksburg and shut BC out, 19-0, at Alumni Stadium in their last trip to Chestnut Hill, where they lead the series 6-3. Virginia Tech has won four straight in the series, starting with a 30-12 win against BC in the 2008 ACC Championship Game. The Hokies have defeated Boston College, like Tech a former Big East member, twice in that game.

This will mark the last true road game of the season for Virginia Tech.

More Notes

-Virginia Tech needs to win today and then next weekend against rival Virginia in Blacksburg to extend its consecutive years of going bowling to 20. Should the Hokies win their last two, the Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas, the Russell Athletic Bowl in Orlando and the Music City Bowl in Nashville all are possibilities, among others.

-The Hokies have lost their last seven games away from Lane Stadium. Their last win was Thanksgiving weekend last season in Charlottesville, 38-0, over the Cavaliers, a game that gave Virginia Tech the ACC Coastal title. The last time the Hokies program faced any sort of road streak like this was in 1987-88, the first two years of the Frank Beamer era. During that period, Tech dropped nine straight away from Blacksburg.

-Kickoff for next weekend's rivalry game with the Wahoos will be announced no later than Sunday morning as ESPN has instituted the six-day option for the final time this season.
