Virginia at Virginia Tech

The season is on the line today as Virginia Tech tries to become bowl-eligible for the 20th straight season with a home game against rival Virginia at Lane Stadium in Blacksburg. Kickoff is set for 12:01 p.m. and the game will be televised on ESPNU.

Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer is 16-9 against Virginia.

Should the Hokies (5-6, 3-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) defeat Virginia (4-7, 2-5), Virginia Tech could make its way to the Russell Athletic Bowl in Orlando, the Music City Bowl in Nashville or the Sun Bowl in El Paso, among other possible options.

The Hokies lead the overall series with the Hoos and have won the last eight, 12-of-13 and 15-of-19. The last Virginia win in the series came 35-21 on Nov. 29, 2003 in Charlottesville. Virginia has not won at Lane Stadium since Nov. 28, 1998, when the Cavaliers took a 36-32 win.

The winner of the annual game receives the Commonwealth Cup, a trophy created in 1996.
