  • Without question, there's a lot of extremely intelligent and talented Hokies hanging out in "The Tunnel". A lot of exciting jobs and job opportunities have been covered here and after giving this a lot of consideration, I'll just say thanks anyway, but I'm gonna stay retired. fishing

  • Software Team Lead here working for the Navy (Civilian) in Philadelphia, PA. Oversee multiple ongoing projects with a team of 3-4 developers. My team does control systems for Navy ships, specifically the amphibious assault type ships. Right now we're not looking for anyone, but I wish we were cause we're always swamped with work.

Question for you software sales gurus.... i'm in the market for a good automated test suite for non-webbased products that will help speed up some of my regression test events. I say non-webbased products cause it seems every popular automated test suite specializes in testing web based apps as opposed to traditional applications. Anyone have any suggestions?

  • I am the director of a mental health agency that does a lot of work with law enforcement and veterans throughout Virginia. We train law enforcement to help improve their encounters with individuals with mental illness in order to reduce officer and civilian injuries and, when appropriate, divert folks into treatment rather than incarceration. We have developed and are in the process of rolling out a statewide training program for all criminal justice professionals on the various combat stress disorders OEF/OIF veterans and service members are subjected to, mainly post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury, and how those two specific injuries when undetected can easily lead to justice system involvement. We are trying to educate justice system professionals on these issues so they may be able to help veterans and service members who they come in contact with.

Thanks to all of you veterans and service members on the board!

I had the same postion covering VA, DC and MD before transferring to the sunshine state several years ago.

  • I have been in the technology space all my career, joining IBM after graduation from VT. I consider myself more operations-focused, having served in a broad range of capacities and positions in technology, manufacturing, supply chain, transportation logistics, and healthcare. I have been a CEO for a technology start-up, and a divisional spinoff from a larger parent. In addition, I have been COO for a publicly- traded application software company. Been there, done that, got the bloody t-shirt...

Love technology; love customers. Really enjoy mentoring younger, highly motivated employees. Seen a lot of problems solved a lot of ways.

  • I work at a college as a janitor even though I feel like I'm smarter than most of the people who go there. Sometimes I see an equation written on a blackboard like half an equation and... I just figure it out.

In all seriousness, I'm switching to a smaller govcon firm next week. I live in Arlington. I have four years experience in management consulting and five years in fundraising/development.

  • I graduated in 2009 with an Aerospace Engineering degree but can't seem to find any work. I don't have much relevant experience so I know that's not helping. I'm open to careers outside of engineering. I'm thinking of taking some graduate level Systems Engineering and/or intro. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) classes. If anyone knows of opportunities, feel free to send me an e-mail at ecoyne@vt.edu. Thanks!
