former LSU star CB Morris Claiborne scores a 4 on the Wonderlic

The test is stupid. I've heard Claiborne give interviews on the radio he's not an idiot. I'm not saying I want him to perform open heart surgery on me but he is far from illiterate. He also used yes sir no sir on almost every question so he came off as well mannered kid.

Agreed. How do people know he didnt just rush through the test knowing it didnt matter? It honestly means nothing. His football IQ has never been questioned and hes stayed out of trouble with the law and thats all that matters to NFL GM's. He is a guaranteed top 10 pick, i doubt he gave this test any thought. I heard this rumor a couple of days ago. The real question is how did this become public, and is it TRUE and from a credible source. Wonderlic's are supposed to be kept in confidence. Sometimes someone will let one slip out, but after the Texas QB's got out a few years ago, the NFL has been more guarded. Is this rumor or fact???

If it is indeed fact, then there is nothing really you can say about it but shame on LSU. If it is just rumor...well, no comment needed. WHO IS THE SOURCE?

Pro Football Talk first reported the story which was later confirmed through ESPN. We all know that the journalistic integrity of that fine establishment is above reproach.

  • ESPN is reporting that Claiborne does in fact have a learning disability that has to do with reading that was revealed to all schools that recruited him. But they also say that he is a good kid with great character.

ehh, who knows. i think if you gave this test to the average high school senior you would be shocked...

i know he is not a high school senior and he was in college...so i get that point. i don't doubt football is the major reason he was in college.

kid could have some learning disability, who knows....

what's the point on railing on the kid, calling him names, etc. over a test.

he is going to the NFL to play football

That makes sense, then. You're kind of doomed to fail on a timed test like that if you have a learning disability.

I'm not rooting against the guy and all indications are that he's a good kid. That being said, if he has a learning disability that doesn't allow him read on an elementary school level, how exactly is it that the was able to make it through college?

I'm very understanding of making the most out of a less than ideal situation, but if you can't read how are you passing classes?

ESPN reporting: We'd like to report what an idiot this kid is. But please keep in mind he has a learning disability and by all accounts he is areally good kid. Thanks ESPN, always looking out for the kids.

The test is a timed test so he could have conceivably gotten through only 4 questions out of 50 and gotten all 4 of them correct and scored a 4. Considering his learning disability, his test score is more than likely just be a reflection of the amount of questions he was unable to answer. He test score doesn't exactly mean he can only read on an elementary level, but merely he can only read at an elementary level given time restrictions. During college, his tests were probably not timed so it wouldn't have had as great impact as it did on this particular test.

  • Can someone please define "learning disability?" Isn't that just a politically correct way of saying "stupid?" shrug Just kidding......sort of.

You are wrong on this one big guy. A study was conducted in 2009 by Fresno State University, the University of Georgia and Towson State. They found that DB's that scored lower on the test performed better in the NFL. No kidding. Same with TE's to a lesser extent, and no noticable correlation for any other position.

Also, ESPN reported the story and say they confirmed with sources, as far as Claiborne actually scoring a 4.

Don't need the brain tying up the feet... Makes sense...

I started thinking more about that. There are 50 questions, and a lot have 3 choices, 4 choices, or 5 choices. I think he if you gave someone the answers only, which means you would be completely guessing at the answers, at least 4 out of 5 people would score more than 4.

I think a score of 4 indicates without any doubt that he cannot read. About a 99% chance that he did not answer a single questions that did not offer answers to choose from.

Is there the slightest chance he isn't completely broke if he doesn't make it to the NFL, or completely broke when his career is over? Lot of high school teachers and college professors really did him a great favor by crippling him for life.

A lot of teachers in his educational path should be ashamed of themselves...he is a football player but they are teachers.....just sad......
