Will Logan

  • Come back in 2013 if he's projected as a 1st rounder? VT has RB's and CB's leaving early to be 2nd - 3rd round picks and it's clear that VT coaches want guys to take the money when they can.

That being said, will Logan's situation be different? VT really needs him for that potential 2013 run. However LT could have a mediocre year and still go in the bottom half of the first round. I know that's not what he's focused on right now, but is there any word whether he will come back? QB is really the only position where kids who are locks for the top ten will decide to come back for another year.

  • If hes a first rounder ya gotta go, jmho. Plus he'll already have his degree (may even have it now?).

If you're a projected first rounder you've got to go. Mighty risky to turn down the millions that's going to secure you for life. There's always a chance it doesn't turn out right a year later.

  • It would take him having a very bad year for him to come back. He'll be a first round pick. Hell, that Tannehill guy was a 1st round pick and the only thing good about him is his fiance.

I would not go as far as saying secure you for life... I think the statistic now is 75% of pro athletes are bankrupt 5 years after they retire.

That's because 75% of pro athletes are dumber than 4th graders. That's not the case with LT.

That may be true, but the vast majority of pro athletes are not getting the kind of guaranteed contracts and bonuses of NFL first-round picks. Plus Logan is a very smart guy, and I'm sure he'll be pretty wise about his finances.

As much as anyone tells you "player x is different," at the end of the day these guys almost never turn down a chance to be a first round pick. And you can hardly blame them when you consider the risk/reward of turning that opportunity down.

    HokiesKillCanes

  • I think he comes back. Andrew Luck returned for his senior season when he was projected high first round pick. I think LT is having fun...and will only get better and therefore more valuable.

Yes, I agree he will go if projected as a first rounder. We have a plenty of back ups.

  • Luck and Barkley are extreme outliers, they're not the rule. First round for LT and he is 100% gone.

I could see him coming back. Considering we will have a good team, being a QB is less risky than an RB, and if he will go from being a 1st rounder to possibly the first pick.

He definitely doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would jump to the NFL at the first chance. With that said, you can't blame him for going. Either way hes going to do great things for the program. rockon

Im in the wagon that Barkley will not make it in the Pro's.

Ya, he's a nice player, but I don't see him as a 10 year starter type dude.

Don't know LTs situation, but both Luck and Barkley come from very secure financial backgrounds.

  • Barkely is throwing to 2 guys that are #1 NFL WR, it's hard to know how good he is. While we love out WR our #1-2 guys were a 5th round guy and an undrafted guy...Yes I think DC will be a 10 year NFL player, but let's not confuse him with a possible NFL #1.

  • I think its more common now for qbs to stay in school if they're confident in their high first round status and their team for the year they come back. Luck and Leinart are two off the top of my head.

I think its more likely for a qb to leave if they come off the greatest year they think they'll have or if their team the following year is vastly different.

All other positions I think should go if they get graded high because injuries on defense, rb, or wr are a lot more common.

I think logan stays if he thinks our team next year has a shot at the title (assuming we don't win it this year) regardless of where he's projected (with the exception of overall #1).

  • If he's a first round prospect, he's gone. Doesn't matter who VT brings back. God bless you if you want to think otherwise, but it's not happening.

    OrangeandMaroon

  • I think there is a pretty compelling reason to come back for him and that is anyone who has, has really benefited in growth from a QB standpoint and that had translated into a better pro career.

    Peyton, Luck(TBD), Matt Ryan,

Leinhart surprisingly is one who didn't benefit from an extra year at least professionaly. I guess playing with Reggie, et al was pretty helpful

MV1 would have benefited from an extra year IMHO, and its not until now when he has a bit more experience that it makes a difference.

When you are a QB, you have more to learn, more to do, more to understand than all other positions combined. When you're a first round pick, you are expected to start or at least compete.

Tyrod was certainly not a 1st rounder, but how much did he gain from an additional year. All the experience and maturity and the perspective you gain.

Not a sermon, just a thought.

O&M I didn't read anywhere how you felt about it? You think he'll leave?

  • Logan absolutely has to go if he's a projected first round pick, it's as simple as that.. You buy stocks in a company right before it takes off not after it hits its ceiling. You don't take that risk coming back for your final year, to many bad things could happen.. Ride the success wave all the way to the NFL Logan.

Anything is possible, but if he is projected as a first round pick it would be very surprising to see him return.

  • Would love to see Logan come back and give bama a bad day cause the defense will be up to the task....with that said if he is a first round lock I want him to do what is best for him and his family....can't be selfish....he needs to take the contract and set himself up with the big bucks....the college experience is great but he's given four years to us.....biggrin
