Basketball: Toss-up between Ralph Sampson, Dell Curry, Kevin Madden, and Harold "Pee Wee" Barber. Probably give the slight edge to Barber. I'll go (1) Barber (2) Sampson (3) Curry (4) Madden.
Football: Chris Hart or Michael Holmes. Hart was awesome. Pure combo of power and speed. Had a dual scholly to Auburn for football and baseball. Ended up dropping football and concentrating soley on baseball. Made it to Double-A with A's, IIRC. Fwiw.... Holmes just broke all of his records.
Overall "best-athlete" though, is Curry. Y'all know about his basketball exploits, but I bet not many of you know that he had about 95 MPH heater and was an All-State pitcher as well. 6'5" and could sling it. Probably would have played in the Bigs had he not chosen basketball....... but I guess that worked out alright for him, no?

Yes, he was. Just out of curiosity did you ever get a chance to see Pee Wee play? Like a said.... best I ever saw by a smidge. What a waste he turned out to be, though. So sad.
The Valley put out some phenomenal basketball player during the late 70's through the early 90's. As mentioned: Barber, Ralph, Curry, Madden, the Lambiot brothers from Central HS, Reggie Waddy, Todd Dunnings, Corey Alexander......

Chad Beasley was a hell of a football player and is a great guy. He absolutely ripped my head off one time, but that was after I pitched the ball over his head that went for a TD. Chad was a very smart football player too. He could play on the edge of emotion without going over the line.
House was what I would call a mauler. Jake made contact with bad intentions and then helped you up with a "Good play". Was at the GCHS-GHS game his Senior year where he blew out his knee and it hurt to see someone with his talent go down like that.

Who is the best HS player you've seen play in person?
