Anthony Poindexter for me. Played against him, Yubrenelle Isabelle, Beasley, Houseright and others that played college/NFL...but he was the best.

Tru, where did you go in the Seminole District?

  • Grant Hill...South Lakes H.S. 1990....man among a bunch of boys....

The Hokies reclaimed the Commonwealth Cup on Nov. 27, 2004. Kendall Fuller was 8 years old.

  • Football - Macho Harris
    Basketball - Alonzo Mourning

    Dokewalker

  • Danny Davis out of Rustburg High School in Rustburg VA. Never was close academically. And some kid named Logan Thomas. Bobby Massie physically was most dominant, but not most talented.

  • Basketball: Toss-up between Ralph Sampson, Dell Curry, Kevin Madden, and Harold "Pee Wee" Barber. Probably give the slight edge to Barber. I'll go (1) Barber (2) Sampson (3) Curry (4) Madden.

Football: Chris Hart or Michael Holmes. Hart was awesome. Pure combo of power and speed. Had a dual scholly to Auburn for football and baseball. Ended up dropping football and concentrating soley on baseball. Made it to Double-A with A's, IIRC. Fwiw.... Holmes just broke all of his records.

Overall "best-athlete" though, is Curry. Y'all know about his basketball exploits, but I bet not many of you know that he had about 95 MPH heater and was an All-State pitcher as well. 6'5" and could sling it. Probably would have played in the Bigs had he not chosen basketball....... but I guess that worked out alright for him, no?

Thomas and Julius Jones. Like watching men among boys.

Thomas Jones...he was a much more complete RB than Julius. Best we have seen down here in Southwest Virginia.

Kevin Madden was an unbelievable High School player. By far the best I saw until I saw Ronald Curry play football. That guy was just unreal on the football field.

  • Juluis Jones...Saw him take it 80yrds to the house just to have it called back for holding. The next play he took it 90yrds to the house. Guy was sick.

Yes, he was. Just out of curiosity did you ever get a chance to see Pee Wee play? Like a said.... best I ever saw by a smidge. What a waste he turned out to be, though. So sad.

The Valley put out some phenomenal basketball player during the late 70's through the early 90's. As mentioned: Barber, Ralph, Curry, Madden, the Lambiot brothers from Central HS, Reggie Waddy, Todd Dunnings, Corey Alexander......

Not Seminole, old SW district at Graham. Played AP in the State Semi's in 93. He out ran a DB we had that ran for the US Jr. Olympic Sprint team (100m and 200m specialist). Our coaches were not initially mad...they were shocked. It wasn't even an bad angle thing, AP just had another football gear.

Chad Beasley was a hell of a football player and is a great guy. He absolutely ripped my head off one time, but that was after I pitched the ball over his head that went for a TD. Chad was a very smart football player too. He could play on the edge of emotion without going over the line.

House was what I would call a mauler. Jake made contact with bad intentions and then helped you up with a "Good play". Was at the GCHS-GHS game his Senior year where he blew out his knee and it hurt to see someone with his talent go down like that.

Isabelle was a VERY tough football player and once upon a time a pretty good buddy. He had the ability to drop his hips and explode when he delivered a hit. He hit like a truck in 5th gear. His lower body explosiveness was insane.

Another great HS football player I played against was Robert Adams from William Campbell. We beat them in the State Semi's in '95. He looked like Tarzan and played that way in HS. Hung out with him in Blacksburg and he just lost the love for the game.

I'll add to the list Ahmad Bradshaw. I've known him since he was a young guy and played ball with many in the Bradshaw clan. The buzz on him started in Pee Wee....crazy that it came to fruition.

I don;t think so. My Dad used to take me to the State Tournament at UHall every year when I was little. I remember him telling me to pay attention to Madden before the game and Madden lived up to the billing. He was just awesome. I remember he basically jumped over a guy who was standing on the block for a jam. I was floored.

  • Going with Tyrone Robertson from GW Danville. He was a beast at DT. I'll go with 2 PCHS boys Craig Hodge and Josh Calfee for Offense 2 great running backs.

  • Tahrick was nast his junior year but didnt seem to have his head on his senior year. Is he even in school anywhere now???

I'm sure both would appreciate the kind words. Real stand-up guys and great athletes. House recovered from that injury versus GHS and led the team to a AA state championship his senior year. Believe he might have been offensive and defensive player of the year in AA that year. Ran downhill and was tough to take down. Great fun to watch. Coincidentally, he and Chad are cousins.

Agree with e&hokie. Thomas Jones was better than Julius. Even at 18, you knew he was going to play on Sunday.

    VTFanInExile

  • Amhad Bradshaw for me. He was virtually unstoppable on offense and special teams. He posted 300 all purpose yards and 3-4 TD's on 9 touches before halftime in one of the games I saw him in.

    Kilgore Trout

  • One of the most Dominant Performances I have watched was Michael Holmes running for 8 TD's in the 1st half of a game.. Had something like 350 yards.

  • I saw Iverson dunk on my older brother when I was little.

I had to run against Percy Harvin in HS and he was just a freak.

I also got to see David Wright in HS destroy our baseball team.
