    agree....and this is not over...sadly there will be more victims (some have already come forward) and the time line will go back beyond 1998.......then the prosecutions (some in the hierarchy will go to trial) and civil suits.......this is long from over and not a good time to be at or thinking about attending pSu.....

    I disagree if you're referring to traditional students. Penn State is a Public Ivy and will remain one. They'll lose money and football fans, but perhaps it's a good thing that they'll have to look back to their other redeeming features besides football.

    yeah....pSu much like uVa would like to think they are Ivy League but the reality is they are good state schools and perception is very important to people who "think highly of themselves". While I was specifically refering to the football team which will continue to sink, I do think the impact of the media coverage to date and what is coming down the line will impact overall enrollment.

    Big difference for pSu vs uVa is that pSu is a land grant school and has a blue collar mentality as its backbone, despite a few pSu grads, etc.... wanting to "think they are better than the rest".......

    At the end of the day when a kid has options for good schools, what has taken place at pSu will have some impact on the decision making process....

    Related to this post, there was a study done a few years back showing a direct correlation between basketball and/or football success and school applications received. Florida received a huge boost between 2006 and 2008 when they won back-to-back BBall championships and two football titles. A top 10 year in sports tends to bring something like a 5% increase in applications for a school. I tried to find the study but couldn't but remember reading it a little while back.

    Just playing devil's advocate, but I believe we received a record number of applications the year after April 16th. Granted, these are two different situations, but a negative event doesn't always mean a negative trend in applications.

    In the case of VT, the nation was behind VT. In the case of Penn State, the nation is sickened by Penn State.

    I agree they are two different situations. I wasn't saying that Penn State is going to receive a record number of applications because I don't believe that will happen. Just providing a different example.

    I'm with you. As I mentioned yesterday they seem to have a "we are Marshall" mentality, that they will get past this tragedy. In penn state's case though, they are the tragedy.

    Yeah I can't stand them rallying around the whole, "We Are" mentality. Really? You're going to continue to promote the "We Are" when it turns out what you "were" for the past decade was disgusting...
