THE ONLY THING I'M ADDICTED TO IS WINNING--CHARLIE SHEEN
I agree with jeva, I haven't been on in a couple days or seen the original thread but if a guy is giving consistently poor effort I don't feel guilty in calling him out. No offense to Marcus as a person, but its not fair to his teammates when he loafs if the play isn't going his way, as he hurts the team directly and prevents an impactful run when he makes literally zero effort to block his man.
The blame shouldn't all go on him though, most of the time you play how you practice. If he's not blocking in games he's probably not trying in practice either, and even if he was we have a couple years worth of game film of him consistently not giving a damn when the play isn't called for him. That's on the coaches; you can't expect him to all of a sudden have the desire to block if you don't hold him accountable for blocking.
Its also not only Marcus that's been a disappointment as a blocker, Roberts has been pretty bad this year and Coale and Boykin had their issues as well, though both improved their senior years. WR blocking has been a problem for years and its a lot bigger of a deal than most would think, especially for a team that emphasizes the run. If you look at teams that break a lot of long runs and are good in the screen game the one constant is excellent blocking by the WR's. Bama does it, Shanahan's teams do it. We usually have one or two guys at best that do it at the level that's needed to succeed. Even beyond the issue of MD's effort level we clearly don't emphasize or teach our WR's to block as well as we should.
This should have happened a longgg time ago. Its not hard to see why Wake fans were so happy to see Sherman go and shocked we hired actually him.
Did you hear Hoo got arrested? Thomas Jefferson would be proud!
