UVA fans: thoughts on coming expansion?

  • Since we can't post on your board anymore maybe a few will stop by here. We have a 14 page thread going and there is very little conversation on your board, unless it is VIP but even then none seem to be very hot topics.

Let's assume the ACC is losing FSU and Clemson. What do you want to see happen?

No Hokies can post on their board anymore? Seriously?

JO probably made the right decision on this. UVA fans cannot have an actual football conversation without getting in a pissing contest. The 247 UVA board was getting a little too heated because of this so JO made it to where VT fans cannot post.

Did you hear Hoo got arrested? Thomas Jefferson would be proud!

  • if your not a member over there you can't post, so i can't post there either. but i hate the idea of anymore departures/entries. i really hate the idea of syracuse and pitt in the ACC. I'm a traditionalist. i damn sure don't want UVA or VT to the SEC for 2 reasons. 1-UVA would be the new SEC Vandy. 2-VT would have even more of an edge in recruiting.

  • He may be referring to like immediate ban on Hokies; or the down vote spam, you could literally tell them a compliment on their team improving and you will still end up with 20+ down votes lol, Hoo fans are like a pack of 5 year old children.

As to your question, I think they are terrified they will get left behind and getting ready to grab their ankles. B1G will take Maryland for sure if they go expansion, but what if they go Rutgers, ND, and one more of someone else, UVA although a possible look by the B1G could very well get left in the cold and dying ACC..... and I won't give a chit

  • Should have titled thread "Conference realignment impact on UVA Lacrosse". You'd have 75 comments and 500 views by now.

  • As much as I dislike UVA. (actually dated a bunch of uva chicks when in college so they're not all that bad)
With their academics and the fact they are pretty good in non rev sports, I'd be hard pressed to believe they're not on big10s list. how hi or low, no idea, but on the list

I would tend to agree and think they would be a good fit then. I don't think the UVA fan's realize the impact conference realignment could have on their program...

Yea they could go from having a slim chance of beating us in the near future to having no chance at all ever.

  • Which is the main reason I welcome realignment.

  • Big 10 schools make a lot of money. the cash from their network alone is silly. They have a lot of power and offer a strong combination of academics and football.
So if they landed in the big 10, and us in the sec, not sure how that'd play out to recruits.

I think it could actually help them in recruiting a bigger footprint and especially in the NE. We'd clean them up in state IMO, but I'm not sure how much more on the head to head guys? We really would beat them on the kids that were never considering UVA but we lost to an SEC school.

yeah, that seems best for both schools.

UVA fans will be up in arms and complain, but they aways do that.
Since they are long time ACC members it will be tough for alot of them...since VT is not a long term member, i am not so concerned about the ACC disolving, just want VT to land on it's feet.

UVA fans will talk of the good ol days...ACC, pre-VT, and how that helped start the downfall...

My brother is a UVA grad, cville resident, big sports fan (i would say his heirarchy is 1. Bball 2a. Football 2B.Baseball)....he will not like the changes at all.

UVA academics and non-rev should mean they land on their feet, but who knows.

Not sure what the impact will be recruiting wise. SEC and B1G will both be super conferences, both playoff elgible, both have storied programs....B1G has far superior academics....if UVA lands there, i am not sure we have a long term significant recruiting edge over the hoos...SEC is king for now, but will perception change with 4 16 team conferences?

I am thinking maybe more VA kids go OOS. With so much change and only 4 conference options for bob boy football, will it be more important for these kids to play in-state....
Being in the ACC i think helped VT with some kids because of proximity to other schools in the conference and the ACC is seen as kids who grow up in VA as the local conference.
that won't be the case if we head to the SEC and UVA to the B1G.....

there may be less pressure or less of a barrier for these kids to head out of state.

who knows...I would think initially it really helps us in recruiting in-state.

  • I personally hate it. I also hate change though. I think we should move the ACC HQ to D.C. to get rid of the Tobacco Road bias perception that FSU claims (warranted or not), do what we need to do to get Notre Dame, go ahead and add UConn, Rutgers and one more (even though I hate the idea of adding more Big East teams) and dominate the eastern half of the country.

If schools like Clemson and FSU think the Carolina schools dominate the league office now, wait until they get to the Big 12. Texas gets whatever they want. It's always been that way and nothing is going to change. Same things going to happen to any new SEC school. The new teams will be like the red headed step child for the next 20 years.

If it's going to happen, I wish it would just go ahead and happen. I'm personally sick and tired of the discussion. If the ACC implodes, I expect us to the be in the Big 10 (whatever the F it's called now.) They have a huge research grant network and UVa brings in an ass load of research money. With Sullivan's ties to those schools as well as some other higher ups from within UVa, I could see that happening.

And then I get to look forward to playing Iowa on Saturday afternoon's. If that doesn't give you a 8 inch woody....

As for you guys not being able to post on our boards, I personally hate it. This is freaking college sports and the cost per month to avoid someone's posts I choose not to read is not really hurting my monthly budget. But JO has to do what he sees best for his business. I don't blame him one bit. I think it would probably be much different if you all didn't have a nice little football streak to hang over some folks heads. I guess for some it's like having to hang out with your ex's new guy. You know what you're missing and that MFer gets it now. For me, I'd just try to make the best of the situation and remind the guy that every time he kisses her, he's kissing a place that used to tongue your balls. (for lack of a better analogy.)tongue

  • Buckeye alum here.
B1G posters are all over the board. Some want to go with a national presence like Nebraska, others want to go with academic (financial) powers like UVA who have AAU membership. Delaney has said AAU membership is important but that its not the only factor.

Right now the B1G could expand but we don't have to because we already have a seat at the table. Also, any future member would have to bring enough value to avoid diluting the 25m per team revenue being generated right now. I personally think any of Syracuse, UVA, UNC, Duke, MD could pull it off. Each is in a major tv market and all are AAU members. I'd include VT but if VT goes anywhere it sounds like you're heading to the SEC.

My guess is that the B1G sits on 12. Maybe that'll change when our tv contract is up in a few years.

  • Joe? Is that you? Thats the most emotion I have ever read in any post of your. Good post though.

    Leanderthal1547

  • I think the B1G could hit a homerun with UVA MD and then add again with any of those mentioned above, UNC/Duke, ND, Syracuse

  • Joe, can we give you messages to post on the hoo board?

Actually, I think there is ample reason to think that, if given the opportunity, that VT would go to the B1G. Good or bad, our administration is very concerned about the academic side. So, if the ACC does implode, I wouldn't be at all surprised if they would first like an invite from the B1G.

of course this could equally be solved by supporting both a VIP only and a 'mixed' board. That way those who really don't want Hokie input could stay on the VIP board and the mixed board could be moderated with a 'no bickering policy' preferably enforced on both sides.

Doesn't seem very Jeffersonian the way it is now.

  • UVA would be a home run for the B1G. No way UVA gets left out, but doubt they have any interest in the SEC and they would rather fold up shop than join a conference with Texas Tech and WVU.

    Champ289

  • I agree with about everything Joe posted. I'll also add that I too have read a few things about UVA AND UNC just may get an offer to the SEC. UNC board was one source. My thoughts I could see the hoos in the BIG10 or whatever we call it these days.

If VT were to get in the SEC:

    EAST:
    UF
    UGA
    USCe
    UT
    VANDY
    UK
    NCst.

    WEST:
    BAMA
    LSU
    ARKY
    AUBURN
    OLE MISS
    MISS ST.
    TA&M
    MIZZ

Play a 9 game conference schedule (7 divisional games and 2 rotating cross-over games)
Just a dream, but stranger things have happened before.
