USC already locking up PSU transfer

  • Running back Silas Redd. Meanwhile Frank needs to meet with his staff later this week. Hopefully there are some guys left by the time our staff is ready to move! Reports that SEC teams have already requested permission to speak to every single player on PSU's roster.

Because coaches always tell the media what their real plans are. It's been less than 24hours, why dont we give it a day before we start complaining

  • Not complaining, didn't say they were doing it right or wrong, just hoping there's something left for us based on the aggressiveness of some of these other schools.

  • That's garbage that a team on probation like USC can benefit from this. Nice little loophole to get around their scholarship limit. Way to go NCAA.

that should be an exception for sure.....all teams that are not currently on probation should be able to pick up PSU's players.

  • One problem is Shane Beamer and wife are on vacation this week. As are a few other coaches I believe.

He's apparently staying. We'll see if that actually happens or not but for now, his Pop said he believes the school.

IMO, if Redd leaves it could open the floodgates. He's apparently one of the real leaders on the team. Surprising that he would leave and especially to go that far from home in his Sr. season. But nothing in this story really surprises me anymore.

I don't know. These guys are already losing their first choice through no fault of their own. Why limit their options further? The Penn State situation is creating all sorts of things that are different than anything that came before.

I just think the probation schools shouldn't have the opportunity to benefit from this situation. While I think you make a fair point about the kids, at the same time the NCAA is already granting them a special dispensation and there are still well over 100 other DI schools to which they could transfer. They're still left with plenty of great options.

  • Guys this is no different than on the recruiting trail. These are still kids who for the most part, have NO vision. Heck there are alot of adults with no vision. How many kids went to UNC and Miami and never thought for a minute what the future might bring. The ones that stay will be kicking themselves in a year or two!!!

Maybe they just like the school? They have every right to pick the school they want to spend the 4-5 years of their life at, just as many of us chose VT. How many of us were complaining when a player like Cornell Brown picked VT over other programs that were playing much better than us at the time? While we were just bad and not necessarily on probation at the time, it turned out to be a good situation. Same could happen for these kids. Don't think we should bash kids for going to a place they want to be at.

True, but try not to use logic on this board -- they'll just think you're a hoo in disguise.

The problem with you is you posted this rather than realizing you just need to move on, let it go, and learn that your posting style is annoying people...

clearly i hurt your feelings yesterday, for that i apologize, did not mean it to be harsh in any way. Its just imo some of your posts go beyond being negative and seem to be with the purpose of stirring people up

my apologies again, just saw that i am not the only one to have said that

Not bashing anyone! If you look at it purely from a football stand point (which is what I am doing) how much fun could you possibly have 3 years from now getting your tails whipped game in and game out and no real chance to get better...no bowls...no possible chance to play for conference or national championships! There is a tremendous amount of sacrifice made to play college football and the reward for that scarifice is to win and have a chance to play for championships. Cornell had the opportunity to improve the team and win championships! These guys dont have a snow ball's chance!!! I am just saying that alot of these kids dont have enough vision to see what is coming! That is not uncommon for kids that age! They are acting on emotion.
Now if all they wanted to do was get an education from PSU and football was secondary then staying is the right option!

Only a Hoo would type this. This board is full of logic, you've just found a way of defying it in a Hoo kinda way.

Maybe its the lack of vision or maybe they just don't care and only want to play PSU football. PSU was their first choice, maybe their only choice and its hard to have to say no to that first choice.

True but the consensus thinking is that he would go early entry after this year.

I think it's a totally different style of thinking. When Cornell committed to you guys, it was a shocker. Welsh beginning to build something very strong and you guys were coming off of back to back losing seasons with Frank sitting squarely on the hot seat. Brown came because he obviously bought into a vision of building something. The winning championships part just came more than likely earlier than even Frank envisioned. These guys at Penn St have the ability to help build a bridge from past glory to new glory. Yes they're not going to go the Rose Bowl and they're not going to play in B1G Championship games, but a lot like the Kentucky basketball players that stuck with their program through probation, they have the chance to become legends in the state of Pennsylvania (as well as earn a degree from a good school and have a shot at the NFL). Whether they're getting their heads bashed in on the field or not, the Penn State nation (which is millions strong) won't forget them for the rest of their lives. And that's worth a lot right there.

  • I guess it is all how you look at it...just like in 300...we are still talking about them today, but in reality...they all DIED!

I would expect alot will stay and I admire them for that. They will still get a great education, but if I am one of those kids that had a program like Tech, Michigan etc as my close second...I am picking up the phone!!!!
