Thinking it's time to offer QB Corwin Cutler

  • Carlis Parker is being recruited pretty hard by several schools in North Carolina, including ECU where his teammate RB Tristan Mumford just committed. Parker seems like long odds for VT. The recent post visit interviews by 247 and TSL with QB Anthony Jennings are less than optimistic, and he looks to be a hard pull out of SEC land. I know there is concern with Cutler's 5.11 forty in Richmond, but that seems like an outlier for some reason, with Rivals showing 4.7.

That 40 from cutler on rivals wasn't event verified. He ran a 4.9 at the 2011 VTO, so I'd go with about 5. Also, don't agree with you on Jennings. First, he's from GA and only has offers from miss, miss st, and Kentucky.. It's not like he has offers from the sec big boys. As for the interviews, seems like a smart kid that's just tring to gather as much info as possible.

I think if they wanted to offer cutler by now they would have.

  • IMO this QB situation is one where I don't really have any opinion (doesn't happen often) on how it's handled because it strikes me as a particularly difficult one to manage. Just going to watch it play out..

  • VT has four solid prospects at QB and likely going to get Hodges in the fold soon.

As much as I want Cutler, I'd be happy with Parker or Jennings. I think I'd rather have Cutler just because of the ties to Brown.

My thing is if Hodges commits I find it hard to believe that Parker or Jennings will follow him to VT... So in that instance you don't want to wait to long and not offer Cutler and he ends up going to UVA.

Also if we are to get Parker/Jennings along with Hodges the loser of the QB battle will more likely transfer out and then we will be back in the same situation lack of depth in the QB spot.

What is your solution to the issues you present? How do we know that offering Cutler would not affect Hodges recruitment? Keep in mind that Leal came in and was behind Ricardo in his first spring and he could very well be the starter next year.

Leal should be the starter for 2 years allowing the 2 13 QB's to RS and have a year as back up like LT did with Tyrod, this IMO is a great situation, and one we didn't have for Tyrod, had we had that for Tyrod he would have had a HUGE Sr year.

  • All of the QB's know that we will be taking 2 QB's this year. INMO and I could be wrong but I just can't see getting 2 of the 3 as far as Hodges/Parker/Jennings.

I say if Hodges commits at the Spring game it ease's the QB situation a little bit. So if Hodges commits you give a offer to Cutler and tell Cutler/Parker/Jennings the next one who commits has a spot on the bus.

Maybe our coaches are keeping each of the 4 QB's mentioned informed that we want 2 QB's and that only Bucky has a reserved spot if 1 of the 3 QB's currently offered commits. That would keep Bucky's camp happy and in the loop, but make it so Jennings or Parker only committed soon if they really wanted to come to VT.

As soon as Bucky commits, then it will probably become apparent, if has not already, that Jennings and Parker do not want to come in the same class with Bucky and then Cutler gets his offer.

No info at all, it just seems to make sense, given what we already know. I have a feeling Bucky's family already knows 100% that VT wants two QB's in this class.

    Think about this...........

If Tyrod had red-shirted and then started last year, would Logan have ever been converted to QB? Probably not, and we'd be walking into this spring with Ricardo and Leal battling it out to be starters as r-so's and LT starting at TE.

Frankly, I'm glad it has worked out this way.

Maybe, but the coaches new they had a QB in Logan, he was set for Back up QB the summer before he arrived. You simply can't hide what he has at QB...and if he was a TE, he'd be a first rounder there too.

also if Tyrod RS we would have a new QB this year with new OL, new RB, and new WRs... in fact we would have 1 offensive starter returning...

glad it happened how it did.
