So the road to the Coastal Championship is pretty much set ...

  • VT wins against Miami, BC, UVA - Loses against Clemson, FSU - 7-5 (5-3)
Miami wins against UVA, Duke - Loses against FSU, VT - 7-5 (5-3)
    UNC - ineligible
Duke will lose at least 2 with UNC, FSU, Clemson, GT, Miami left

There's your rooting guide....Basically beat Miami and take care of business against BC & UVA and VT goes to Charlotte. Miami should lose to FSU.

good run down regardless, it seems no matter how you slice it, we need to beat UM. Any word on their QB's injury?

  • That would be the perfect example of why Conference Championships are bogus. We would limp into the ACCCG with 3 losses and play a team with most likely only 1 conference loss who BTW already beat the stuffing out of us. I will take it, but will be a repeat of last yr where we get beat twice by the same team and I might add easily beaten.

Backed our way into the ACCCG in 2008 at 5-3 after limp wins over Duke & UVA and destroyed BC in Tampa after they beat us earlier in the year. Still counts as a championship. Though, you're right, a championship appearance at 7-5 (5-3) vs. a FSU or Clemson team in Charlotte quite possibly could be ugly again. But, heh, it's better to have the opportunity than not.

You mean like how Florida State limped in several years ago against us and then beat us and took the trophy? You take what you can get when you can get it. Would you rather someone else go?

Agree. it's the system in place, so work it as best you can. 2 division winner play for the title, and the best team will represent the conference. Even sweeter this year if UNC can finally win the coastal and watch us go in their place. That gives them sanctions a lot more weight, and we could watch them implode.

May happen. We just got to get some wins. I'm not throwing in the towel on Clemson next week. Doubt the team is either.

No I would not, but your missing my original thought. I don't think conference championships work well when one side of the equation has 3 losses vs the other side only having 1 and especially if the team with 3 losses has already lost to the other team.

Anyway, I see your point as I guess it evens out, far from a perfect system and ACCCG games are good for the fans and mostly about more $.

  • It is not a given that Clemson and FSU make it. If NC State beats Clemson things get interesting.

  • Just some interesting #'s given how bad we started. Turns out Cincy and UNC are pretty good as far as our SOS. Don't ever schedule AP again.

    From Sagarin:

    9 Florida State A = 87.83 6 1 62.64( 107) 0 0 | 1 0 | 81.72 24 | 89.29 8

    22 North Carolina A = 82.71 5 2 65.19( 92) 0 0 | 0 0 | 76.60 41 | 84.06 17

    24 Clemson A = 81.12 5 1 67.20( 74) 0 1 | 0 1 | 80.65 28 | 81.04 25

    37 Virginia Tech A = 77.01 4 3 67.71( 64) 0 0 | 0 1 | 74.29 51 | 77.41 35

    46 NC State A = 75.16 4 2 67.61( 67) 1 0 | 1 0 | 75.14 48 | 75.01 4

    59 Miami-Florida A = 71.69 4 3 75.62( 11) 0 1 | 0 3 | 76.60 42 | 70.74 63

Numbers in parenthesis is SOS. VT is # 35 in Computers taking score into account - #51 without score as a factor. We are 0-1 against the Top 50 which is Cincy, 0-0 vs Top 20. Both ranks feel high as bad as it feels we've played. Amazing run up till now to know we can goon it completely in the first 6 games and be in the Top 50 of all FBS school.

I prefer to think of it as a dose of reality rather than 'spoiled fanbase'.

Make no mistake - VT only goes up from here based on what I saw in Qtrs 2-4 Saturday.

Miami is not that good. Let's get them in S. Florida ! And get to a bowl !

As far as Morris for Miami, most optimistic rumor I've heard so far for them is high ankle sprain. That can definitely take some time.

It'd be nice to play a qb that can't run

  • I don't want to stir up a storm, but if we somehow go to the ACCCG, does that mean out coaching staff stay in tact? I am a huge supporter of our staff, but even I feel like there need to be some changes.

    Great point as always, Smitty.

Miami's record up to this point (save for a few drives by Ryan Williams - cool name) is with Stephen Morris - pretty good QB - in the Logan Thomas mold except lame.

He will most likely be out or at least sore for the VT/U showdown. Like our chances - even with this Bud-led D squad vs. a freshman QB - regardless of his name coolness factor.

Hate that 'what if' game but if VT stops Muchie, yes, Munchie on the last play of the game in FedEx, we are cool ..... OK. maybe much better off Sagarin-wise but still hating that UNC treated us like they had players so good they musta been cheating ...

Got absolutely no VT Homer explanation for Pitt - Nuthin.

I do know that we can do this bowl thing and this ACCCG thing. Let's GO !

Don't forget Morris started against VT 2 years ago in Miami, and hit 3 of our DB's for completions. We gonna be in his head bad. He ain't forgot that.

And, the remaining D ain't forgot that was LT's nice understudy bullet throw to Danny Coale - 3rd down n long - cold - off the bench. Real welcome for the ACC from LT.

Ok, not as significant as the 3 picks but The U knows LT can burn them....from 2 season's worth of torching.

VT will show up vs. The U. Maybe playing their best ball all year .. W. I predict big W.

Good one on Logan. VT just needs to keep on with what they started Saturday. That was a very different team from 0-20 on.

exactly...there is a reason they play the games...no one gave Pitt a chance against us earlier this year either...

  • It ain't over till it's over.....turnover here....a turnover there....missed opportunity here.....drop there....you never know....that's why they play the game......biggrin

  • Their pass D is HORRIBLE, we should hit them for 400 easy. We need to start the game like we are down 14 so we come out and know we need to score 40, which we likely will any way. I feel like the o coaches either aren't allowed to open it up early or just look to the D for their lead (which is not a bad call most years)
