Reports from Day 1 say Sims looked like poop compared to Rocco..

  • Let's get to the real question. Did any of them display an aptitude for properly holding the clipboard on day 1?

And we are suppose to believe ML on this one , even you 33 is smarter than that...just saying..hammer

Righttttt, such a conspiracy, thats why you see Kamara headed elsewhere, as predicted here a month ago. Dont be an idiot, and get your head out of your ass. Every single program cheats, including VT, it all depends how far youre will to push it, and right now London is willing to push it a lot further than VT. But he needs to build a name, VT has one, so its a shot worth taking.

  • Sims really struggled today. Timing was off, ball floated like a wounded duck all day. Hell of a disconnect between him and his receivers. Sluggo and Rockford both had their moments, but neither looks confident, and there seems to be a real split in the team. London is obviously frustrated, and practice ended an hour early. 5 or 6 guys really stepped out in handling the clipboard. That could be the battle to watch.

Your comment about "a real split in the team" is something I was thinking about previously. QB controversies,if not handled well, can lead to chemistry problems on a team as players start to take sides. There could end up being factions for Rocco,Sims, and Watford depending on how the coaches handle the competition.

Don't put too much stock in it, I made it all up. But in my head that's what happened.

I like Rocco about as much as I can like a hoo. Also liked that d-lineman from last year who got hurt.

Rocco is a leader on the field and a great role model off the field for his team mates to look up to. The fall training camp will be one of the most interesting camps in recent memory for UVA. As a UVA fan I am wanting the best man to win the job. Some of you guys are right, this is one to break out the popcorn for and watch this develope.

I like the Rocco kid as well. If the OC has his way he will play, but will the the OC get what he wants? I'd love to be a fly on the wall at OSHS if Simms sits.

I think you're right on Rocco. The best QB is not always the one with the strongest arm. The UVA offense will throw mostly very short passes, and Rocco last year did pretty well. Lazor will leave for the NFL asap, and if forced to play someone other than his choice, he may leave for another college job if an NFL job doesn't happen. Watford has said he's a QB and not changing positions. If Sims isn't going to play, things will get ugly.

It may not sit well in the 757 if both Sims and Watford sit. I believe that Rocco will be hard to unseat. Rocco says he WILL NOT give up his status as starter. Sims was quoted as saying that he is tired of the criticism he has heard since he left Oscar Smith and that he is going to prove himself by SHUTTING THEM UP. This is going to be a barn burner.

IWatford is a foregone conclusion, him simply him being at UVA is a burned bridge....Sims had his chance to go to UVA and learn the system, everyone knows he choose poorly...the issue is what happens if Rocco plays well early and Sims starts looking good in practice....you will have guys on the team taking sides, and that is REALLY bad

Good post. You are spot on. Sims made the initial choice to go to Bama rather than UVA. Some will not forget that and will favor Rocco if they both compete evenly. I think your point about players choosing sides is potentially the most negative thing that could happen for this team. Remember Perry Jones and Tim Smith were team mates of Sims at Oscar Smith when they won the state title.

Oh I know, and the OS guy and other 757 kids have their buddies on the team, and I have a feeling many of the WR are going to fall in love with Sims ability to throw it further down the field...which means very little if it isn't on target or he makes a bad read....but as we know WR aren't typically known for their reasoning ability.

Let's also not forget a former player with a NFL HOF dad that publicly threw London under the bus for playing 757 kids over other more deserving players on the team....it matters zero if he was right or not, it is out there and everyone knows about it...Sims is 757, Rocco is not...and there might be another elephant in the room that shouldn't be but always is

Someone will not be happy, how it plays out is all that is unknown

  • I like Rocco as the starter. Considering that we shut down their running game from the beginning, our secondary was way better than their WRs, and we forced passing situations when we started pulling away in the second half...he actually played pretty well (minus taking sacks instead of throwing the ball away a few times) and made some good throws.

There aren't very many QBs that can come into a new program and unseat the current starter especially when the current starter has a year of experience, so I don't think there's really any way that Sims sees the field as a starter unless Rocco gets injured and even then, Watford, with a year under his belt, will probably get to play some (2 qb type thing).

I think Sims would have to know about the QB situation at UVa but probably heavily weighted the proximity to dad in the decision to go there. I don't know what affliction his Dad has, but if he has to have surgery, then there's a strong likelihood that frequent hospital visits may be necessary. If that's the case, then I can imagine that being THE factor in the decision. Mike London has been able to sell the school really well but convincing a highly touted QB to come play for you when you have a backlog of QBs on the roster would be Saban like...and London is not Saban.

Then again..what do I know...I'm just dying for practice videos and updates to feed my need for Hokie football.

  • According to today's practice report Sims completed every pass he attempted and totally picked apart the first and second team defense with an assortment of short passes and lazer like bombs that were dead on target. He by far out performed Rocco and Watford according to Jamie oaks. This is going to get good.

You act like that is tough to do. Hell I probably could go 20 out of 20 on that swiss cheese D.

  • This will be interesting to say the least. Rocco did well last year and deserves to be the starter going into the season, but alliances are made or broken by what takes place before the season starts. London certainly doesn't want to offend the guys at OS or his 757 connections but in a fair fight Rocco will probably win out. The moral to the story is to not make promises that you might not be able to keep.

I agree with everything you say. I think London wants to win and will put the best man on the field. This is all under a microscope right now and that should help keep the process on the right track. As a UVA fan I have no idea how this is going to turn out.

  • So CML has Sims going against the 4th team defense so he looks good and Lazor has to play him. Smart.

Actually Sims has been dissecting the first and second team defence. Not sure where your info is from.

You may be correct about Lazor leaving for the NFL but I believe Lazor will get what he wants. I have to feel that Lazor thinks he is in a good situation. With the QB talent at UVA now I think he knows that he has a chance to produce some NFL quarterbacks and up his stock even more. I could be wrong but it is at least something to consider.
