OT: PSU plans to take down the Paterno statue (UPDATE)

  • After standing firm on keep the statue, PSU has decided to remove it. I expect some disgruntled students to make some noise about it, but it is the right thing to do.

Update: The statue has been removed.

  • They should just turn it 90 degrees so it can look the other way.

Maybe take a blow torch to it as well - then bend it over at a 45 degree angle and place a statue of Sandusky right behind it so that - this way - all of the PSU students that are out there to 'defend' the statue can be constantly reminded of what it is that they're seeking to 'defend'.

I'd like to think that had this happened at Tech, there wouldn't be students lining up to defend the statue, but rather lining up to take it down. I've attached a suitable visual for this process.

  • Good. It's just sickening to me the support that Paterno is still getting from these people. The level of brainwashing up there for him is incredible. They have built him up to be some God-like being that could have never done any wrong...

I agree. It is truly disgusting to see people almost worship another human being. It was always obvious to me that Joe Paterno was not the man everyone made him out to be.

The bottom line is that he had way too much power and he knew enough about the situation that he could have acted and done the right thing. He didn't on multiple occassions. He also covered up the situation and pleaded with other superiors to not take action.

Joe Paterno failed miserably here and he certainly wasn't the "leader" that all of his supporters think he was.

  • And in the spirit of the way Penn State continues to screw the pooch, not so fast my friend. Lot of contradicting information now coming out. Appears decision to remove statue was made without consulting the BOT, and they are livid. This decision is far from over.

I would imagine that if it were Frank Beamer in the exact same situation, he'd still have plenty of supporters here as well. Paterno was a larger-than-life figure to these Penn State fans. To see him and his legacy soiled in this way has to be very, very hard for them. No doubt, some of them will try to deny it at first. But over time, they will ultimately accept the truth of it.

  • I think they are just putting it in another location. I think ESPN said inside the stadium. I wouldn't want to play in that stadium if so.

  • When are they going to investigate about the prosecuter who came up missing ? Or has that been done already ?

They are keeping it in storage indefinitely.

It has been under investigation for awhile. Very strange case, with clues pointing at suicide, murder, or even that the guy absconded. A badly damaged laptop hard-drive was recovered from a river linked to Ray Gricar (the prosecutor), but no data could be recovered. Very strange, all around, but nothing stands out to definitively state that he was murdered, or anything else for that matter.

Also, his computer had been used (presumably by him but possibly by someone else) to search for 'how to fry a hard drive' and 'how water can damage a laptop.' Honestly, I think he was paid off and bounced to some other country, but who knows?

Ray Gricar mystery: DA's privacy adds to intrigue surrounding his disappearance

Former Centre County District Attorney Ray Gricar disappeared 7 years ago. His link to Jerry Sandusky rekindled interest in the case -- and conspiracy theories -- but police haven't made any real progress since 2009.

Gricar put away a lot of drug dealers. Additional clues pointed to Gricar purposefully disappearing. Possibily the lease compelling theory is Sandusky related. Seems thin.
