Question for ya? Why would the VILLE come if they didnt have assurances? Just wondering here. Wasnt Big 12 courting them?

  • Is this enough to keep everyone happy? I don't see this adding any $ and being 10M a yr behind the SEC and B1G has to still be a huge concern for these teams. It seems Swofford didn't understand the landscape and now has 4 to 6 schools that don't care about football and this band aid won't fix the trips to BC, Wake, Cuse, Duke, Pitt and Miami with tens of thousands of empty seats and the god awful SOS our teams will have in the future.

well, if you subscribe to rumors, big 12 isn't adding anyone until they know for certainty about fsu.

I'd say in reality the ACC is much more than 10M behind the SEC/B1G. And when the SEC Network kicks in the ACC will be left in the dust. Thank God Swoff held on to Raycom and helped his son out.

Totally agree 5 plus years down the road the SEC and B1G will be at least 2X the ACC in Revenue per team. Better get out now or hope JJ is the next Coach K because the ACC will end up a second class conference in football.

  • This is idiotic.

Why not invite WVU back into the mix with UConn. Call it a merger between the Big East and ACC.

This could/would/will be the 7th Big East School added to the ACC.

If we really wanted to be with Pitt - Cuse - Louisville - BC we wouldn't be here in the first place.

It's time to sit at the big boy table and be done with this FOREVER.

I don't think for a second Louisville has a guaranteed spot in the Big XII. The Big XII could potentially get FSU, Clemson, NCST, VT, BYU and GT depending on how the rest of conference realignment shakes out. I would say Louisville is behind all of those schools on the application list.

  • Probably the best move for the ACC, but realistically, most Hokies are still emotional with the state of or football program and the crossroads we have come to. The product we have today gets destroyed in the BIG or SEC. However, news that we could be at least playing big boy football excites many, knowing changes need to be made. If we can put a product on the field that wins some big games and destroys lesser opponents, we may still grumble about the money and politics, but I don't think we would feel that the conference affiliation would be do or die.

I think the grant of rights the Big 12 signed earlier this year ensures that WVU isn't going to leave the conference. I don't think Swofford wants to add Louisville and I'm sure schools like UNC are against this move because Louisville does not fit their criteria academically, but if the ACC wants to keep FSU then they are going to have to add a team with a decent football program. Clearly Swofford should have added WVU instead of Syracuse the first go around, but probably wouldn't have had the votes to add them anyway. Now with Maryland leaving, it changes the entire dynamic. This was the best move the ACC could have made right now IMO, but it probably won't be enough to save the conference. It's all going to come down to Notre Dame, which is most likely going to mean bad news for the future of the ACC.

  • I can live with Louisville. Good in hoops and good in football. I prefer cincy over Uconn. An upgrade over Md in my opinion. But Md better for location.

Well stated, Louisville would probably be best case scenario for the ACC because it is an upgrade in terms of football, basketball, and revenue. The ship may have already sailed on the possibility of VT going to the SEC so maybe our efforts should go into making the ACC an attractive, competitive conference to the SEC. These decisions are made by college presidents and not athletic directors and your decision can't be just about football alone.

  • Lets be honest Louisville is an upgrade in most areas over Maryland. BUT this won't change anything, Louisville doesn't keep this conference together, the only thing to solidify this conference is Notre Dame becoming a full member and I still think Hell freezes over before that.

As a UofL fan, I agree...it will keep the three football schools (4 if you count the ghost of Miami) happy for the time being
