Looks like football is headed to a 4 team playoff

The consensus seems to be a 4 team playoff with the games not played on campus but played at BCS Bowl locations, and I'd expect Jerry Jones will outbid everyone for the National Championship game. It also seems qualifiers will have to be Conference Champions, likely chosen by a committee similar to the one that selects the basketball tournament. Notre Dame has been attending the meetings with reps of 11 FBS conferences, but I haven't seen if ND would have to join a conference to qualify, or receive an exemption. This could well be what forces the Irish to a conference, hopefully the ACC

That's A-OK with me. I don't care where the games are played. All I care about is that college football is FINALLY going to a playoff system to decide its champion!!!! :-)
I'd prefer an 8-team playoff, but at this point I am quite happy with a 4-team playoff.
IMHO, VT's chances of winning a national title just went up significantly. Finishing in the top 4 of the BCS (or whatever system they eventually put in place to select the 4 teams) is a lot easier than finishing in the top 2, and once you're in the playoffs, anything can happen.
You make an excellent point about Notre Dame. I've believed for a while now that in the new college football landscape, they're going to find life as an independent to be pretty unappealing. They're going to have to join a conference eventually, and given that they've reportedly burned their bridges with the Big 10, the ACC seems to be the most logical fit for them.

I agree...this is better than no playoff for sure. The games at higher seed home field make a lot more sense for the fans, however and would produce a better environmnet, but when did the fans ever come into the equation with these guys. This was SEC strong arming for BCS locations, because they are ALL in the south. Granted Texas, AZ and CA are possiblilities too, but all are in warm climates. SEC did not want to play in the cold. Whatever, lets just get it done!

Yeah, I'm pretty excited about a 4 team but would really like an 8 team. A 16 team playoff like 1-AA would be the ultimate for me but I don't see it ever happening.

Funny, I was thinking it will hurt VT's chances even more. Sure it will increase the odds of VT making the "playoff", but the chances of VT wining TWO big games in a row (prob. against two SEC schools) seem minuscule at best. And from what I heard yesterday, the "only conference champion" thing will not happen - TV wants the best match ups possible and they usually get what they want.

This is a great point, and also why I agree with a playoff wholeheartedly. I also like the requirement of being a conference champion.
I wish they would let the conferences (whichever ones to be included is debatable) just choose their champion anyway the want, and then put the champions into a playoff. No at large, no independents...just champions. You don't win your conference, tough luck.

PAC 12 commissioner Scott is in favor of the conference champion requirement and makes a good point about being easier to define has opposed to hundreths of a point in some formula that not everyone understands. Top 4 conference champions are seeded 1-4 and play.

I hope you are right about Jerry outbidding everyone. Nothing I would like better than watching VT win it all just 12 minutes from my house.
