Kyle Bailey on Tim Brando

  • Fellers...

Tim Brando of CBS Sports and Yahoo! Sports Radio has been killing VT on his show and on twitter for the Greenberg firing. He and I have disagreed on twitter a few times, and it's culminated in me having Brando on the show this week to debate. He, in turn, wants me to come on HIS show nationally to state my case. Just thought I'd give you a heads up. There are only 2 of us in the press that cover VT full time that are also Hokies, so I have to temper my "homer-ness" all of the time and I'm sure it won't be easy when I talk to Brando.

Anything you want me to talk to Brando about in the context of this whole mess? He could be on tomorrow or Thursday, we're not sure yet.

  • Give him Hell, Kyle! Ours is a tough case to make in the public sphere because so much of the legitimacy of it is based on events and insinuations of things that haven't and probably won't ever become public. Best of luck!

  • Ask him if he ever spoke to Weaver or anyone in the Ath. dept before he spewed his BS all over the airwaves.

i know it is the nature of national sports talk radio...these guys can't be insiders to 100's of programs and sports teams...

but it always amazes me how some can speak so definitively on something they likely only have a surface view of.....

and then when those who know the details state their case, you are all of a sudden delusional or just being fed lies.

if a program chooses to fire someone, there is usually just cause..how often is a beloved coach who wins alot of games fired?...never.

  • do this to him ---> moon

Seriously though, congrats on being on a national show.

Main things that I saw with Seth... 1. His record and NCAA appearances weren't great. Record wasn't horrible but not good enough to make the argument that he was too good a coach to let go. 2. He was rubbing people the wrong way, and you can piss off people but you better be really really good at what you do.

PS. Really like what the group of you guys are doing (VTScoopStaff, CZY, Kyle, Vick, etc) giving / promoting VT in a more modern way. I think it will go a long way for Hokie Nation.

When four-letter words are an essential part of your vocabulary it usually rubs people the wrong way. (referring to Greenberg)

  • While the handling of the firing of Seth was not good, Seth had to go. In my opinion Hokie basketball had become difficult to watch. The offense seemed like there was no rhyme or reason. It just looked like pass pass oh oh out of time jack up a shot. All of Seth's team's skill level seemed to level out and never get passed a certain point. There just didn't seem to be much excitement other than the fact that games seemed to be closer than they needed to be and Hokies had trouble putting other teams away at the end.

I had notice that apathy in the fan base was creeping. I kept feeling that other teams were doing more with less. Look at VCU, Richmond, and George Mason. Hopefully JJ can add some excitement and better player development to the program because other than recruiting Seth sure didn't feel like he was.
