Jayron Hosley - NY Giants Deal Finalized

  • Interesting quote in regards to why he left - Hosley said he left school early because college football was getting "too easy" for him.

With rookie minicamp set to begin on Friday, the Giants have reached an agreement on a contract with another one of their draft picks: cornerback Jayron Hosley.

The team's third-round pick will sign a four-year deal, according to someone informed of the progress of negotiations. The person requested anonymity because the Giants haven't announced the contract yet.

Based on his slotting as the 94th overall pick, Hosley's deal will include a signing bonus of $515,000.

Hosley, who left Virginia Tech after his junior season, had three interceptions last season after recording nine as a sophomore. He and the Giants said a big reason for the dip was because teams didn't throw his way that often. In fact, Hosley said he left school early because college football was getting "too easy" for him.

Hosley had concussion issues last season and failed a drug test at the Scouting Combine but the Giants weren't concerned about either apparent red flag. Hosley said he's learned his lesson from the failed test.

    DEXTERITY

  • if it was so easy why did he get beaten so often? He was amazing until he got hurt and then not so much.

  • Yea, I hope Hosley doesnt go down the DHall path and just run his mouth. College football was not too easy for him and that was proven on the field. I really like Hosley, but just shut up and play.

  • He said it off the cuff and would probably like to take it back. We all know the truth is one must play 3 years in College football in order to enter the draft and get PAID.

Get of his back and be proud he was Hokie.

Noones on his back and who here isnt proud hes a hokie?

I simply said "I HOPE he doesnt go down the dhall path"...didnt say he was going to.

Maybe he said it off the cuff, maybe he didnt...the point is he did say it. You can expect people to react/comment when you claim that it was "too easy for you".

    relax, everyone here loves Hosley.

  • 1982...I was not necessarily referring to your post, if I was I would have quoted you. Holsey takes a fair amount of unecessary flack on both boards. Yes, he likes his herb...so what. It should have been legalized 75 years ago if not per prohibition.

My apologies. I honestly didnt know he took a lot of flack, so i thought you were giving me a hard time.

I agree 1000000000000% about the herb. Its ridiculous that alcohol is legal and marijuana isnt. But i guess thats a topic for another day.....or maybe the OT board smoke

  • Hosley battled the hamstring injury most of last season, if you remember he pulled up lame in one game, cannot remember which one. He did get beat on that play and subsequently removed himself from the game. He sat out a couple of games. We got killed in the passing game after he went down if you recall.

I suspect Hosley will be a great corner in the NFL.

Pretty sure that was the Wake Forest game. Givens burned him for a 76 yd td.

  • Hamstring injuries are tough to play through as a corner. When Hosley was healthy, he was a beast. He also should have had at least 3 more INTs, but they were taken away by some very questionable PI calls. Why is this such a big deal? The kid feels he was ready to play at the next level. That's why he left. The Giants thought so. Also, his ability as a punt returner will likely keep him on the roster.

Happened in the ACCCG. He took a lot of heat for it on message boards because he looked okay on the sidelines, but the coaches wouldn't let him go back in because he was concussed. We really missed him, as our two best corners were unable to play corner (Fuller was at Whip).

  • Keep in mind, the NBA only requires 1 year of College to make the jump to the NBA. I wish the NBA would up it to 2 years.

Back to Hosley, he played his 3 years and now he is going to fulfill a life long dream that very few D1 players will be able to follow. I am not sure the % of D1 players which actually drafted or better yet last 2 years in the NFL. I would imagine the number is a single digit.

Hosley should have had 3 more interceptions which were BAD calls. Would have given him 6 only playing about 65% of the season....not bad. Anyway, here's to hoping he keeps up the DBU legacy in the Pro's.

    thanks here is the info

The simplified process of negotiating draft-pick contracts under the new collective bargaining agreement has allowed the Giants to get most of their picks under contract by the start of rookie minicamp.

    Including their top pick.

The team has signed first rounder David Wilson to a four-year deal with a team option for a fifth season, according to ProFootballTalk.com. Wilson's agent, Joel Segal, confirmed his client has signed.

Financial terms are not yet available. According to his slotting as the 32nd overall pick, Wilson was in line to receive a signing bonus of about $3.3 million. But unlike the other picks, that bonus is more negotiable. At least that's the way it was explained to me. I'll get you the full details when they're available.

Wilson's signing means there's not yet word on deals for only two picks: wide receiver Rueben Randle (second round) and defensive tackle Markus Kuhn (seventh round). As of late last night, there was no agreement between the Giants and Randle. It's unclear where the team is in the process with Kuhn.

All draft picks, even those who remain unsigned, can participate in rookie minicamp, which runs from today through Sunday. The point at which unsigned rookies can't partake in team activities is the start of training camp, though the pace the team has set on signings so far means we're unlikely to get to that point.
