Holy Snikes. Check out the figures being thrown around in this

  • Most negotiations fail when the business proposition is 'come save us'.

What most fail to comprehend here is that ND wants and deserves to be fairly compensated for the $$$ that they'd bring in. In their mind - why should Wake Forest profit from us going to the ACC...???

Unless we/the ACC blows up our current TV deal - we're hamstrung in negotiations with ND. What are we going to offer that a. staying independent or b. joining a different conference won't give them.

In other words...we need to show them the money. This TV deal doesn't allow us to do that.

Agreed. Their best play is to sit back and watch. Nobody is negotiating from a position of strength with them. And to land them would take a deal not true to what the current ACC is.

  • If FSU and Clemson leave, even ND doesn't put us at the big boy table. ND would go B12 and we would be stupid not to go SEC.

I'm all in for SEC inclusion. No need to wait any longer IMO.

  • I want VT in the SEC because then VT will have A+ conference prestige in the NCAA Football games.

Simple: because Notre Dame is still the most talked about team in college football. Love them or hate them. They have an entire church that follows what they do. Catholic folks in large metro areas grew up watching them and still pay attention no matter where they are. When you add Notre Dame (no matter what brand of football they bring), you add multiple large TV markets in one swoop of the pen.

It's always been that way and unfortunately it's not going to change any time soon. Even when Gerry Faust was their Head Coach and they were awful, they were still on TV every week. Even through their bowl losing streak, they're always talked about and hyped to begin the year.

And they're a very good fit for this league due to everything else they bring to the table.

    Is that you Rudy?

  • Even if the ACC stayed intact, and the SEC only paid us $1 more I'd still want the SEC.

A 10-2 record in that conference and you're in a serious bowl game and getting PBS of respect nationally, an you basically have ESPN on their knees. In the ACC you still get mocked. Will we achieve it as often? Hell no, but it'll be fun an worth it when we do.

So true. I'd much rather go 8-4 in the SEC than 10-2 in the ACC.

They have an entire major network dedicated to their games! Beano Cook talks about them every week. The College Football Hall of Fame is located in South Bend. You just pointed out that an entire region talks about them......and that region is 600 miles from their campus. On the other side of the country, USC's biggest OOC rival: Notre Dame. What school is the biggest bully in the Big 12 pushing to try and get: Notre Dame. And they're in TEXAS!! Michigan's biggest OOC Rival? Notre Dame. At one point they'd had 169 straight games nationally televised! Why? Because they're freakin' Notre Dame!

Look, I think they're as overrated any team in any sport over the last 25 years. But there's no arguing that the media machine falls down with their legs spread trying to get to them because they have a draw just about any place in the country. I hate it. But it's a fact.

Good. I've never understood why anyone thought people would want to go to South Bend, Indiana to visit a museum.

Plus, there is not very many things in the world as fun as an SEC game between the tailgating, pageantry, incredible game, hitting a town that is all football all the time... you guys will love it, especially the Vandy trip to Nashville. You've got to make that one (for the town, not necessarily the game). Do try to go to Ole Miss and LSU home games at some point. Awesome.
