    SEC here we come

We hope... I still have doubts that VT would actually pull the trigger on that, unfortunately...type_angry

Probably not right away but VT will have a role in all this. Remember, VT does not want to be first (nor do they want to appear too anxious). The way I see it now, we could have three options...1) SEC, 2) Big12, or 3) remain in a reconstituted ACC with more former Big East teams added. I agree with most every Hokie fan that the SEC would be the preferred move...We shall see...

I just heard from my source. About 1 hour ago the Big 12 voted unanimously to "unofficially" offer Clemson. So now the ball is in FSU and Clemsons court. Also of note, Notre Dame has an open invitation. That means if FSU and Clemson accept and then ND comes on board, they would be looking for one more. Stay tuned and keep your eyes and ears open after the new playoff format is settled. My sources say that is likely when "unofficial" things become official.

Wouldn't they be looking for more?

I saw the following graphic the other day and it sure seemed to make a lot of sense - if - in fact they go to the pod structure.

POD 1: ND, Iowa State, WVU and either Pitt or Louisville. (Pitt has had a historical series with ND for years - give them the nod)
POD 2: Kansas State, Kansas, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma
POD 3: Texas, Texas Tech, Texas Christian, Baylor
POD 4: GT, Clemson, FSU, Miami

I could see leaving Miami out even and picking both Pitt and Louisville and moving WVU to Pod 4.

No matter how the Big12 would cut it, the 4 regional Pods (rivalries) would seem to be the best fit.

It would also kill the ACC and certainly leave us with the ability to get the hellouttadodge.

Night, I would think Louisville before Miami. Miami is again a "tainted brand"...

HokieRanger is bringing some serious heat. Part of me wants to see the ACC implode and have us move to the SEC. The home football schedules in the SEC would be ridiculous. Plus, I am already tired of UNC, Duke and WF.

    Swofford sucks.

I read an article that said if champs are in the National Champ game then the 2nd place team would play in the SEC/ BIG12 bowl game. Dont know if that means highest ranked or loser of SEC Champ game.

Thanks Dave. In recent past the Sugar Bowl which traditionally host the SEC champion has ended up hosting the second place SEC team because the SEC champion is always playing for the NC.

Look at last year, first and second place SEC teams landed in the NC allowing us to gain an at large bid to the Sugar Bowl. I have read this week the SEC coaches have made it quite clear at their annual meeting in Destin they are not in favor of the top 4 conference champions being the teams who will make up the 4 team playoffs. The coaches prefer to send the top 4 ranked teams regardless of their conference afflilations. I agree, otherwise the regular season becomes diminished and why bother with rankings?

  • If FSU and Clemson leave for the Big 12, and IF VT is invited without having an SEC invite in hand, do we go? The Big 12 has the makings of a darn good football conference.

I think we would put a feeler out to SEC schools. Basically, we have this B12 invite, we would prefer the SEC but we can't wait. If you want us, it has to be now. Pretty sure the SEC would jump, they have had their eye on us for a while.

I agree. Make no mistake that there has been contact between VT and the SEC. It's just a waiting game now.

I'm just reporting what my source is telling me. My source is at the Big 12 meeting so I believe this to be 100% factual.

  • Since we're back on expansion again let's talk money....

Details are slim, but money won't be with possible SEC TV network - NCAA Football - CBSSports.com News, Scores, Stats, Schedule and BCS Rankings

It's called Project X, and the 'X' stands for dollar sign. The SEC is considering following the Big Ten in creating its own TV network, and Brett McMurphy says the project could be a cash cow for the conference.

Where did you see/hear we already had a Big 12 invite. I saw Ranger's update mentioning Clemson, FSU, hopefully ND and one more but that could be anybody? Right? Did I miss something?

    Oakie

  • That was a hypothetical question. What would VT do if invited by the Big 12 without having an SEC invite?

  • One more piece of information that I clarified on Clemson's "unofficial" offer. It is contingent on FSU coming with them. To my understanding, FSU can come regardless of Clemson.
