Not ruling out leaving. Ouch.
I guess to be fair he wants to see who is hired.
Man I hope they are on the phone with Johnson right this second. He was mentioned multiple times in the conference.
Almost sounds like his departure did Seth in...actually it 100% sounded like that.

Still don't understand why Johnson would be the hire. He has no experience as a head coach. And was part of the current 'so called mess'.

Hokiestone, any idea if Weaver has narrowed a list or spoken to any potential candidates?
Seems odd to me we wait this long after season for firing, but I guess the JJ issue was to much NOT to do anything. I just hope we have a new coach soon....
worst decision is no decision at all, sometimes...

Not sure of my opinion on hiring JJ; trying to keep an open mind. I trust what the gurus have said about his abilities and potential, but I also don't want to see us make a hire based largely on retaining current players or recruits. I want someone who will be best able to lead the program for the long term. Not saying that guy isn't JJ, btw.

I am not just a JJ guy.....but while weaver fumbles around, the team is going to flounder, and that is saying it as nicely as I can unfortunately

In Weavers preconference he said he hasn't narrowed his list or really even formally completed a list. It sounds like he reached out to one person last week and heard from a couple today. I imagine they will work this week on creating the list and next week on narrowing the search.

That is exactly right, and also the scary part. We are in the middle of the spring signing period with no coach. This decision was needed, but it should have been made a month ago....and we would have had a coach in place. That is also what concerns me most about weaver making the decision on our next coaching hire

If Weaver was going to fire Seth, it should've been done as soon after the ACCT as possible. The last month has been like a slow death to the program

There is also the train of thought that they actually have a short list and a decent idea of who they hire because they want no part of a service. Just saying.
JW may just be keeping his cards close to the vest. They have to know of the importance here.
I'm guessing they try and get some big name guys who make them wait on a decision by the end of the week. They know the importance of our recruits and will have a story for them by Friday.

I'm with PheasantRun on this one....Weaver's a sly dog.
Think about this.....none of our insiders knew this AM that Seth was getting fired....Seth himself was brazen enough to answer his phone by saying he was still employed.....the President's office @ VT didn't even know about the news conference.
Bottom line: Don't play poker with Weaver son! He just might have more up his sleeve than you think and he proved that today.

The point was other people may try and leave as well.

no matter how he feels about SG...i am sure the situation sucks for him.
he is a senior next year....he doesn't know who will be coach, who else will transfer, what he will do...not ideal for any college athelete.
so while he may be happy SG is no longer his coach...he now has to wonder who is coach is next year, and where he will play.
losing recruits will suck, but you can't keep a guy around for a couple of recruits...
let's just hope we make a solid hire and are able to retain the majority of the team.

Sure, but it is pretty standard practice for a player to be leased from his Loi if there is a coaching change. ex : our recruit on campus today
