Basically no one should get game balls based on how last night's game (and season) has played out. No game balls for an 18-point loss and a 4-5 record.

    That's the bottom line.

  • No offense to you J. Lezzi, I know you're just working with the scraps you were given but these have to be the worst game ball worthy performances ever!

i'd give a game ball to knowles for a few of his kickoff returns that we wasted and effort he gave on the diving catch that was reviewed etc.

"It is a mystery why he isn’t the primary and lone punt returner as he has success on a lot of occasions when back there."

How can Holmes possibly be our #2 option at punt return?

    Or why
    JC doesn't get more carries
Corey Fuller doesn't get more touches

I tell you I'm going to miss Fuller more next year than Davis and Roberts. His trajectory is upwards, theirs is flat.

    I miss Fuller this year.

  • If that's the list, then don't post one. Logan's effort was great, but one could argue he played a major role in the loss.

  • John, I understand you're in a tough spot with this weekly article.

I wouldn't be offended if you wrote this article and gave some of the game balls out to the opposition.

To me, running Logan on the first play of the game was the equivalent of Stiney walking to the field, throwing down a white towel, and saying we give, not a clue what to do on offense.

Here's the amazing thing. "That" game-plan of using LT as a battering ram was developed with a week off. Then, on top if it, Mike Burnop was effusive with his praise about having a great game plan coming in. Stiney, following that with his extensive knowledge of the vast number of formations used. They should take this comedy routing on the road...

They ought to take those balls and practice extra points with them.

  • I really feel sorry for LT. I think he is trying to carry the whole team on his shoulders and it's not working. JC didn't touch the ball at all during the first quarter and for the life of me I am just puzzled as to why not.

Don't be puzzled - go look at Beamer's comments. He stated in the presser that they wanted to get Holmes involved in the game and get him going.

Meaning that Holmes, not JC is #1 in CFB's eyes.

Agreed, there has been the understandable question about Holmes' touches but I was thinking last that it seems his running style is even more poorly suited for punt returns but what do I know.

I'm going to assume that Holmes has very good hands and Beamer is confident that in his ability to not lose the ball.

That's kind of the mindset in a lot of areas it seems to me. Success on a punt return has now been reduced to simply catching the ball. Any actual return yardage is completely optional.

Doesn't Holmes lead the team in fumbles? If not it sure seems that way.

I don't know. Off the top of my I can think of 7-8 guys that I would expect to be returning punts ahead of Holmes.

Not sure why Corey Fuller doesn't return kicks or punts. On Logan's long TD run, Corey outran everyone on the field, and blew past Miami defenders to catch up with Logan and actually block a couple guys. I thought, wow, I forgot that guy is really fast. Then I wondered why I forgot he was fast. Oh yeah, cause we rarely use him
