Dillon Christopher

  • Coach Newsome was in Newport News last week and stopped by Menchville HS to talk with Dillon Christopher. Coach Newsome wanted to make sure that Dillon would be at the June 3rd camp, which Dillon will be attending. Dillon is very excited about the opportunity to be around Coach Beamer and show his kicking ability. For those who do not know, Dillon kicked a 60 yard FG last year for the state record. He has the strongest leg of anyone that I have seen kick. If he does well at the camp, he has a very good chance of earning at least a preferred walk on offer. Dillon really likes VT, but he is getting good interest from Wisconsin, ODU, W&M and more.

  • Like this kid. Get the ball to the 40 yd/ln and we've got 3.

Could be the top kicker in the nation next year...

  • Kickers are the biggest crapshoot in the business. First, they kick off tees in HS. Second, they have never kicked in front of more than a few thousand people, Third, they have a huge adjustment to the speed of the college game, just as anyone else. Fourth...well...they are kickers.
The two best kickers I ever saw (even noticed, actually) were Brandon Pace and Drew Jarrett. Brandon had a great career, but after Drew didn't break into the starting role at UVA right away, I think he sort of lost interest, is my best guess. He could have been great, but now isn't, for whatever reason.
Walk-on offers are the only way to go.
If a kicker does an admirable job for a full year, give him a scholly.

I agree, however Dillon will be kicking off the ground all of his senior season from what I have been told. He is practicing this week for an all-america tryout next weekend, and he will be kicking off the ground from all indications.

  • That is awesome news about foregoing the tee. That is always a difficult decision, as it may not be as warmly received by the HS coaching staff and his teammates, who want to put themselves in the best position to win.
The VHSL ought to ban the use of tees in this day and age. That crutch is no longer needed.

  • I just found this on youtube, this is his 60 yarder. He also tried a 68 yarder but it fell about 3 yards short.

  • Sounds like the coaches were in contact today, moving quicker than anticipated..

@KickerSwag27 -Tech coach just called me in class and told me that they are probably going to offer me by the end of this school year! #hype

  • I understand that there is a certain amount of risk in giving a scholly out to a kicker but I also know that a great leg is gonna equal out to one more win a year in many cases....sometimes you have to bet the deck to hit a home run...!!!

  • Very much in favor for giving Christopher a schollie. An excellent kicker puts a lot of points on the board and puts more pressure to hold our O outside the 40. I would love an O that can consistently get to the opponent's 40 and threaten with 3 points.

  • Dillon performed in the JR Rank camp here in the 757 this weekend and was overly impressive. He ended his day kicking a few 50+ and was fantastic. His last kick of the day was another 60 yarder that was straight down the pipes.

  • UVA Coach Chip West visted yesterday at Menchville according to his Dillon's mom. UVA is in the hunt, but his heart is in Blacksburg.

  • He looks really quick to get off his kicks. If he is the kind of special kicking talent that he seems to be, I have no problem offering him a scholarship. Having a kicker like that is a HUGE weapon, especially when you've got a defense like ours.

My feelings too. He has been consistently impressive and is kicking off grass. We "miss" on scholarships extended at other positions. HE is TOO much of a huge O weapon to bypass. Wisconsin is always aggressively pursuing K and I'd like to see us land this young man.

  • Dillon was offered by Navy yesterday

Edit: Found this on Recruit757.com about his offer from Navy

Boom! Menchville’s Christopher Gets His First Offer | Recruit757

Kickers are a different breed. Even the best of them don't always get scholarship offers and if they do, the offers might come late. Menchville's Dillon Christopher has been recruited most heavily by Virginia Tech and he hasn't hidden his interest in the Hokies at all. The first scholarship offer has come in, but it's not the Hokies that were first to the punch.
