  • About what was expected

    HNB

  • so being that he originally wanted to go into engineering....a program both schools have, i wonder if michigan was the school that talked to him about sports management....a program that VT doesn't have apparently, or was he always thinking about both of those as possible majors?

I think we can still offer a pretty good pitch with our management program though. You can still apply most everything to a sports management tract.

I feel like our coaches should take somewhat of the same tactics by getting him around ALOT of our players and showing him an engineering tour and management tour so he can get a full spectrum.

When these guys come to the Spring game, do they usually come up the Friday night before?? It would be great to get them around the former Hokies that are going to be visiting a lot too.

As the #1 recruit in the nation, barring a career ending injury,he will end up in the NFL. The best degree for him,in my opinion,is a Business degree. This would be a valuable degree for him for marketing himself and handling his finances in the future. If he,for some reason, does not play in the NFL,a Business degree is still very valuable. He could always take electives that have a sports focus if that is an area of interest. Hopefully, after the glitz of his recent UM visit wanes,he will realize that VT is the best academic and football fit for him...plus,it is close enough to home that his family and friends can easily attend his games. As the parent of a former college athlete,I was happy when she selected a university closer to home so that we could more easily attend her games.

  • How high on Hand's list of priorities is staying close to home?

At the end of the day, proximity to home just may be VT's ace card. No matter how big or athletically talented a recruit might be, underneath it all he's still just an 18-year old kid about to venture out into the cruel world on his own for the first time in his life. Being able to be at college with people you knew in high school and being close enough to home to easily do an up-and-back in a weekend are usually important considerations.

  • This doesn't feel good to me at all. Him wanting to be an Engineering major felt a whole lot better. Not throwing in the towel by any means, but this is a blow...jmho.

he's going to Michigan and him and D. Green are going to win plenty of big ten titles together. Michigan is a recruiting juggernaut right now.

Thats what I'm thinking too. Like I said, I never got where all the confidence was coming from on Hand.

Dude, you agree with anything that is negative towards VT and recruiting...so this isn't saying much...not hating on you, just an observation

  • Some people are quick to give up faith? The fact that it is down to 2 and we are one of them gives me confidence.

Maybe cause we are in his top 5 (top 2, really)? Because he has really enjoyed himself every time he has been here? Maybe cause he has visited us multiple times already and will be coming to atleast one junior day and the spring game?

It is absolutely incredible how negative people can be. Sure, he might not come to Virginia Tech, but you can't honestly say that we are not in fantastic position for the #1 player in the nation. We have a TON going for us in this race. When has a recruit gone on a visit and we hear that he had a bad time and hated the trip?? We will get just as glorifying reports when he comes this spring, especially for the spring game.

  • i take it back, i had a moment of weakness. apologies. I do think we're still in it, but I've gotta be honest, I was new to recruiting when Kirven went to Bama and that left me scarred early. I mean, shit, it was close with Clemson for us to even pull Fuller. We've just been on the wrong end of fortune one too many times it seems to me

I'm 10 years in...I was the same 1-2 years into this recruiting thing too. I was certifiable when VT missed on Brooks, Parham, Johnson...

Your absolutely right, I'm in a rut of negativity. I'm just not a believer yet that VT has turned the corner that much in recruiting to where we land the number 1 player in the country and yes I know KJ might have been but that was before star rankings. It doesn't help that it seems like a number of our top targets are leaning elsewhere as well
