I know many Hokies didn't want him. Great coach, players seem to like him too
Nah he wins too much. I could be wrong but iactually wonder if Weaver cares how well BB does. Look at Penn st

Would he have really wanted to come? He arguably had a better program situation where they only cared about basketball, and had unlimited job security, why would he have come? Our best shot would have been a Steve Prohm from Murray State or someone like that. But Weaver wouldn't dish that out. I still don't think it will matter in the end because I think JJ will turn out to be pretty good

why didn't a bunch of Hokies want him? I would have been stoked with that hire. You don't take GMU to the final 4 w/o being a good coach
I agree totally, I mentioned this above but several people thought he was too old
The man is pure gold.
You do know he just played football and was an assistant FB coach at penn state. Never worked in the ad's office. Now I'm not saying his priorities are in round ball either.
Laranga has family in South Florida. IMO he would not been interested in our job as much. Let's face it we are what we are in football. Built for NIT expecations and HOPE of NCAA's. Now by saying that I think JJ earns more time. I also think he was good hire. The one though is do we need to recruit more Basketball savvy types instead of just AAU slab ball all stars. Harsh on my part but I think AAU is overrated. Again JMHO
Good point. Eddie, Brown, and Barksdale have close to zero bball IQ. Colorado St beat us more emphatically than any ACC team all year and my guess without fact checking is we have much more highly rated players coming out of HS. Need more Zabian Dowdells who understand the game. It has been years since we have someone penetrate and dish to bigs for easy buckets on a regular basis. Hoping JJ brings some kids in who fit what he wants to do but with a starting 2/3 who can't penetrate, shoot consistently, or play D it is hard to win games in a high major conference.
Unreal seeing Miami at #3 in the polls. Had to do a double take after seeing that

I think it would have been a good hire but he's coaching a team of seniors at Miami now..I'll give JJ that chance before I say something like I'd want him over JJ
He's a great coach, but he's a "win now" solution. We didn't need that kind of coach for this dumpster fire. We need someone that can build from the ground up and JJ was the better choice long-term IF it works out. If it doesn't work out with JJ, then it would be pretty easy to say Larranaga would have been a better hire. He's certainly the proven commodity.

@beercontrol ... a know-nothing
BB ain't like fb, you can show a very good team in two years if you can recruit well. Ground floor football takes a little longer.
Wasn't ever gonna happen, he left GMU for HUGE payday and also to be closer to family. He has Cuban roots and wanted to be down there and figured it would be last stop before retirement. He Got a full cupboard when Haith left of good (albeit illegally recruited-with hookers) players, and has done well. I know the family and VT was never really in it.
Lol I wudnt say that tge recruits git recruited with hookers but man they have talent but ill say this frank haith cudnt coach for anything he was useless.
