I am supposed to be traveling to Blacksburg Friday night, the weather channel website says 70% chance of snow. Any of you Blacksburg locals - whats the local predection? Trying to figure out whether to cancel my trip. Thanks.
The Roanoke.com weather blog says 3+ inches for Blacksburg Friday afternoon.
Either this website doesn't exist or is not currently available.
Roanoke Times' weather journalist Kevin Myatt forecasts, analyzes weather in Roanoke, New River valleys, Southwest Virginia.

Which way you coming from? Further to the south could be ice. National weather says snow in blacksburg throughout the day Friday and getting heavier in the afternoon and evening with 3-5 inches possible.
You'll get a better picture tonight, and again in the morning. Hard to tell at this point, but could be a little tricky.
Coming from Portsmouth, supposed to get on the road 4:00 PM or so, its a 5 hour trip so should get to the Burg about 9:00 PM.

All things considered, that is probably the best direction to be coming from. Definitely check back tonight or early morning. It depends on what you are comfortable with. You're looking at no more than an inch in Richmond, and 1-3 in roanoke. So, doesn't appear that the trip would be too bad, and I don't think getting to Blacksburg and having 3-5 inches is any big deal. If they up those amounts a couple of inches along the way, then you might have some rough travel.
Smitty let me guess....
Your house is suppose to get around 7 feet?
In the morning go to NOAA weather....on the home page and type in 24060 for Blacksburg local weather....go down and locate forecast discussion....there you will find detailed forecast and is very accurate within a 12hr window...should tell you what you will need to know for tomorrow afternoon/evening....as of now shouldn't be too bad as long as you are in the proper type of transportation .....front wheel/4wd would be preferred choice.....
calling for 3-5 inches so far. After a a foot last Friday, should be a breeze
I am driving from Richmond after work to come sled in your yard all weekend.
I'll bring the booz
Awesome!. Jasper will have a blast.
Dont go Rt. 58 and Rt. 8. That is a direct route, but you don't want to do it with any snow on the ground. Stick to Rt. 460 or the interstates. They are predicting an inch or two in Richmond starting late afternoon on Friday and said that rush hour going home could get messy. Been really cold here and ground and asphalt are cold enough now that it will all stick. Got about an inch this morning.
Thanks for the info guys. I'll check back in the morning to get the latest...
I wonder if this will effect Chavis
They seem to be dialing back all the forecast a bit. Looking like actually less snow than they were calling for this morning.
