If you disagree you know nothing about sports. Kids played to the end in a.game where they didnt get many breaks.
We will win our next 3 games at least. If you thought we would go.into ACC play without a L you are a foooooolish muck.
We have a real god team on our hands with an unreal pointguard. Dont take it for grantit
Green is a great college player right now....as he pointed out post game we are lacking in toughness (severely). We will be on the bubble this year IMO, probably more like a top 50-60 team. A significant injury to any of our top 6 players and that goes out the window.
Anyone know if Wood was sick yesterday...only 5 minutes?
I agree...thankfully. Those threats seem serious.
Gotta love the 2:30 am post...funny stuff.
Either way, our hoops program is absolutely on the rise. Not one to blame the refs, but there was some slight home cooking there...not saying on purpose...happens everywhere. If Eddie isn't in foul trouble we win that game...period. It was like the refs were looking for offensive fouls, but didn't want to call anything if a kid drove to the basket.
Love JJ. Wait til we actually have 11 kids on scholarship...not taking anything away from our walk-ons...their enthusiasm and effort is impressive.
As much as I would've loved to have Doe-Doe or Harrell, I will trade them both for JJ every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
If we stay focused and consistent, we could be a one-loss team heading into the ACC and that is absolutely exceeding expectations. We "should" take the LV classic or at least we will be the favorites. BYU in Provo is never easy. Hopefully a little payback for last year.
Go Hokies...and I hope the head isn't ringing too hard this morning JBC.
How bout our depth? Do we have great size? Do we have a steady low post rotation? We have our issues, as well. Can afford ZERO significant injuries.
We aren't top 25.
Based on how we rebounded I am not sure how anyone could think we are top 25. We are a pretty good offensive team if we stay out of foul trouble and avoid injuries, but even then we are so thin we have no margin for error. If we had held onto MH and DFS then we would be top 15 for sure... The story of VT basketball is woulda, coulda, shoulda...
Wow. I am amazed at how the "football" mentally from a lot of Hokies simply does not allow them to look at the body of work.
Do we need to rebound better ? clearly
Do we need to defend the ball better ? absolutely
Do we have limitations as a team ? without a doubt
But a lot of Hokies simply can not allow themselves to look beyond 1 loss in basketball, and realize that the basketball season is a marathon that will have games where your weakness is exposed.
Last night, our shooting was not good at all and we became vulnerable when we got some cheap foul calls on our secondary scorer(JE). That changed our entire game plan at that stage. Brown did a nice job imo stepping into the secondary scorer last night, but the team plays strong when Rob and Dot as our 3/4 options.
lets see how the team reacts on Monday.
Do they come out flat or "discouraged" ? those were always classic signs on a seth coached team after a tough loss. Or do they come back looking to slam the door on their next opponent and make improvements. JJ is not a micro manager, so I expect to see a strong effort tomorrow. NO one expected this type of start for this squad...and to think anything less than seeing this group at 11-2(perhaps even 12-1) heading into ACC play is selling this group way short imho!!

nothing to do with football mentality. We aren't a top 25 team. Not enough depth, rebounding, etc to beat the better teams in the acc. Ok state was a quality win but they are very young as well and were playing on the road. WVU most likely isn't a tourney team this year they were a bad 3-3 team coming into the game. This team has a chance to be competitive in every game, but when one starter gets into foul trouble it's going to be a long night.
Great comments Hokiestone.
I take nothing for grantit.
We are a top 25 basketball program...yet.
BYU game is in SLC, not Provo. Not exactly neutral, but not quite Provo.
I never said they were a top 25 team....however, college bball rankings the first week in December are complete bunk. So let's see where a lot of the teams sit mid January for comparison sake.
So a young ok state team goes on the road and loses and it's ok...but a vt team(with only 1 senior) goes on the road into a very hostile venue with a week long break and that's not a valid reason for a potential off night ? IMO, the shooting had a ton to do with the layoff(rusty).
WVU also had two players who were ineligible through the first five games and that were available yesterday and created additional matchup issues...so wvu is a tough game no matter their record. Without a doubt!
No question the game changed when we lost Eddie (one of our starters) yesterday that caused a problem....but that applies to most college basketball teams not named Duke, Kentucky or Carolina. The point being, this certainly was not a bad loss!
Preach i have been impressed with the team. Yes there are weaknesses...im still enjoying this season..!!
The whole thread started asking the question of if we were a top 25 team right now...
The team has exceeded my expectations and may eventually grow into a top 25 team, but based on where we are today and what I have seen the answer is no. We have some nice wins but by in large we have played a terrible schedule and rely too much on a couple of players to do all of our scoring. If EG ever gets hurt or in foul trouble we are done... We also have to figure out how to rebound better or we are going to get killed in the ACC.
I would say we have a top 50 team but no way are we a top 25 team.
