ODU likely to Conf USA as well.
GMU is caught sleeping here. Patriots need to get moving!
A-10 is going to have a nice BBall Conf. VCU makes a nice move here. I can see this pushing ODU
With all the money being pumped into ODU, I could see them being an ECU good football team in 10 years.
Perfect market for it too. 757 has been jonesing for some football.
Can't go into a league if you are not invited
Believe they turned it down last Friday. That said they may revisit the change.
To make them look good they said they turned it down.
Apparently Liberty University is looking to move to the FBS as well. Not sure if there are any takers for them though.
ODU going to Conf USA. Just going to wait till end of June so they can be eligible to win a Nat Title in 1-AA. ODU has the donors lined up for 3 years till they can expand stadium and get additional revenue. VCU would have stayed if ODU stayed but all in all its a good move for them.
I would think that JMU or UR might be leaving too. I know that ODU really wants another regional rival to go with ECU and Charlotte.
UR is already in the A-10. They made that move about 5 years ago (from the Colonial). No way Richmond changes anything in football. They do not want the expense of trying to move up and just built a stadium on campus that would have to be tripled in size, so they are content with D1-AA. The president and athletic director discussed moving DOWN a division about 5 years ago and that (with a few other things like raising tuition by $10,000 per year just because he could) got the prez fired. The AD at Richmond knows better than to mess with that subject again. They are set in both football and basketball for a while.
GMU in a conference without ODU and VCU...Why are they staying? Sounds like they wanted it, but VCU got the nod instead...
They will actually be official members on July 1, 2012.
Who - GMU or VCU?
VCU, GMU wasn't invited
Got it - thought you were giving us some real inside scoop there. GMU is gonna be lonely up in NoVa. Still have JMU and William and Mary I suppose...You've got to think that they would have begged to get into the A10.
I agree with you EN. Great move for VCU and the city of Richmond though.
JMU will be gone sooner than later. They're football driven. Their stadium is huge (for 1-AA) and they've only expanded one side. In fact, they've publicly stated that they're exploring 1-A football.
Just a matter of time, IMHO.
JMU will be D1 in probably less than 3 years if I had to guess.
This isn't Texas. Four-D1 schools will dilute the talent even more. Will take some time, but it will happen.
They won't effect VT unless they hit an absolute home run with a coaching hire.
While we're not UA and UVa isn't AU, they will be about as relevent in Virginia as UAB and Troy are in my home state of Alabama. And yes, UAB is in a huge hotbed of college talent (the Birmingham area is stacked) just like James Madison is.
Traditionally, very little D-1 talent in the Harrisonburg area (JMU), fwiw.
JMU won their national title with 757 leftovers.
My bad, not familiar with the whole Virginia landscape. I thought someone said they would get a lot from the 757.
