Why would Stinespring stay in a coaching compacity on the staff? If he wants to take over Hites/Cavs job then fine, but it would make no since to fire your OC and then have him coach TE's, etc... We would be laughing at UVA if they fired Jim Reid and then had him LB's coach! Don't you want your position coach to be able to move up the coaching ranks? Stiney has proven he is only capable of being a position coach, at best. I know the gurus say he is a must keep, but i am not buying it. I also thought gurus said teams would be knocking on the door to pick him up as a coach, and maybe that will still happen but i doubt it.
Stiney is a good coach. Period.
They did. He turned them down to stay here and help VT win. Honestly this discussion gets more silly everyday.
He will be a good position coach, but more importantly,a great recruiter.
We always say how important it is to love the place. i honestly believe he loves the place. If he works his tail off, brings in talent, coaches up his position, in addition to loving the place, then we need to stop hating. We're getting a new OC, what else do you want. the man is having to swallow a little pride to step down, he deserves some respect for that aspect too.
Yup Stiney loves VT you can tell that about him.. He just wants to win sometimes job titles and big paychecks don't matter.
Just One Question, If Frank Beamer quit today, anda New coach came in with NO ties to VT at all, Who do You think he would keep from the Football staff that is there now, not counting the 3 that are leaving? Because that day Might be here in the near future when Frank Beamer leaves. I might make this a thread because it would be interesting to see the answers from the Hokie Nation.
Bud, Cornell, Stiney and maybe Gray would be the most likely choices imo
Cornell and Stiney over Gray and Shane? You must be joking.

No inside knowledge but I would bet money Cornell can coach circles around Shane.
A new Coach may not want a Coach named beamer on ths staff and No I am not joking I would take Cornell over Gray or at least equal to..JMO
How would anybody know? They haven't trusted Cornell to do much coaching at all. He has 1 position. And that position has only played about 50% of the snaps over the last 2 seasons.
This is also the reason it is crazy to take Cornell over Torrian. TG is probably the top DB coach in the country.
Cornell works with Whips and DEs. I'd take Torrian over him at this point though.
This whole line of questioning is moot anyway...Its not just about who a new coach would take, but who would stay? Bud Foster isn't going to hang around and just work for anyone, particularly if they have no ties to him or VT. If he isn't the coach he probably takes his talents elsewhere, with his entire defensive staff.
I think the question was meant to ask which coaches are most valuable. There are too many variables based on who the new HC would be to make any educated guess on who he would keep.
Shane is currently the better recruiter it seems.
IMO, Stiney will be a good head coach. Remember, the HC is a good administrator at this level, and I think Stiney can coach well and be the face of the program. I think he would delegate well and be able to handle the players. If Dabo can do it, so can Stiney. Take into account composure as well. Personally, there are several guys on the staff that would be good HCs. Just my opinion.
I just want to see Stiney make an impact in the 757. Everyone will be watching to see what he can do now that he's liberated from his OC responsibilities.

83, that's kind of a bold statement considering what Gray has already proven as a coach. does Cornell really have that much potential? curious for your thought process here.
