How will that effect the thinking of fellow ACC members? Plus VT? 3rd tier rights I believe. Since ACC controls ours how much does each school get. They are saying WVU gets around 9.1 million for this. Surely if that is so VT is getting robbed and so are others. I am sure the ACC may have a plan. Dunno for sure. I have never understood the ACC and what they relish as their 3rd tier strength. Anyone from ACC point of view help me here? Oh please all SEC peeps don't blow this post up. Just a question I would like answered if possible.
Last I heard VT gets about 2mil a year from Raycom deal supposedly, I will see if I can get some up to date info..
Thanks 83, With WVU getting this deal I would imagine some in ACC HQ's are worried about some seeing this and leaving.
Can't imagine it'll have a positive effect. This was one of the sore points for FSU. If WVU can get $9M/year for their 3rd tier, what would FSU make? You'd think they'd might get pretty close to what the ACC is currently paying them for all tiers?
Not sure what the ACC plan might be, I believe they signed a contract signing all tiers away to ESPN for our $17M/year lump sum, so good luck with that. The ACC made an incredibly bad deal and now we have to live with it.
Gotta hope that there is some kind of misunderstanding with respect to tiers or that a different revenue stream comes into effect if an ACC channel is developed. But I'd guess that the contract stipulates that it'd have to be run by ESPN and they likely have some input on whether it would happen.
3rd tier strength? In general the strength for the ACC is its depth of non-revenue sports. Only the B1G might be better.
If WVU can get 9 mill/year, VT could get more and schools like FSU could get close to 15-20 i would imagine.
Swofford is all over it. He will do whatever is in our best interest. He is a good man. He's no Emmert, but a good man none the less.
Well it may get to point now is with ND involved can all deals be re-negotiated? Can ESPN allow the ACC to destruct? The ACC has always had good programming for ESPN.
Yeah, makes some sense. Just hate having to rely on ESPN's good graces to up the pay out significantly just to save the ACC. At least there is some precedent there as apparently that is why the Big12 has their current deal. Also, if the ACC breaks up it looks like most of the bigger schools would end up in the Big12 which is Fox affiliated instead of ESPN.
Looks outside.....sees fire everywhere and frogs raining from the sky......Apocalypse begins.
You dont get to show all 3rd tier games. It depends on how many times the network picks to televise your game.
Good thing for WVU not so good for VT or Floridas St as we are picked to be shown more often so the tier 3 money might not be that mucho higher.
IMO I am not sure ESPN wouldn't mind seeing the ACC collapse, then they don't have to pay the ACC and put their eggs in the best baskets...Clemson, VT, and FSU would be worth more than WVA if the deals were equally negotiated. But 3rd teir playing against actual Football schools would be the real money...the ACC just doesn't have enough of those
I hear you, but 9 large for the games no one else wants to show? Even if there are more than them that seems pretty high. Does WVU really play that many more 'poor tv' teams than VT?

The 9 million they are getting includes a huge list of things that we also sell. The bid included signage at games, ticketing, parking, luxury suites, fund raising, coaches shows, radio broadcasts, and website advertising. There were probably a few more things. I've forgotten them all.
What they have that we do not have is one football game (last choice) and a handful of basketball games. So their "tier 3" is worth only whatever those television rights added to the amount. The rest of it is stuff we have the right to sell on our own.
We have a deal with IMG now, I tried to find what it pays yearly and could not find the exact amount, I believe its in the 5-7Mill Range and a new long term deal is in the works also. I was told that IMG will be paying for the new Jumbotron as well as the new scoreboards in Cassell..fwiw
Swofford should NOT be the commish of the ACC. I'm really surprised the presidents have not openly questioned his son's position at Raycom. This was a huge conflict of interest for him and the ACC. He has cost the ACC MILLIONS.
