Unfortunately, I wasn't able to watch the entire "game" today. I spent all day running around taking kids to their functions. I was able to listen to the "game" via Sirius and on my phone. Gotta love technology right? Just like you, and the hundreds of others that may read this, I am BEYOND frustrated with my Hokies. What's wrong you may ask? What's wrong with our team? There are so many leaks in this program, there aren't enough plugs to save this sinking ship. It all started with the emergence of the great QB's that came through our program (Vicks, Randall, Taylor, etc.). All of a sudden, the dynamic of our team changed drastically. It used to be when you hear Tech, you used to say, smashmouth, running team, great sound defense, beamerball. When these QB's came through, the powers that be wanted to change and go to a passing attack. Huh? We have never been a passing team. Next thing you know, the recruiting dynamic has changed. Spending time going after blue chippers and begging players to come to your school instead of going after what fits you. Problem is, what is our identity? What is our M.O.? No one knows. Time has passed us by and we are still stuck in this holding pattern. What we are looking at is a group of individuals. Not a team. Virginia Tech is in a fight with Virginia Tech. Until something changes, get used to what you saw today. It isn't pretty. And it will never be pretty. A stagnant offense with no direction. LT has probably read too many press clippings. A defense who will give up yards but will play hard. But how in the hell can you get beat deep in prevent defense? These entitled players think that they know more than the coaches. Coaches think they know more. This isn't a team. A major power struggle between players, coaches, and the powers that be will begin very soon. It will get ugly before it get's any better. What do you think? We all know a change is needed. But how much? How far? Who would you go after?

it does matter what we all think the bottom line is. If you didn't care, why would continue to watch? I personally am afraid that what we are looking at is a Paterno ish situation. They are scare to fire him. They want him to ride off into the sunset. We all know that THAT won't happen.
THE ONLY THING I'M ADDICTED TO IS WINNING--CHARLIE SHEEN
I totally agree with you. I used to be the guy that gets crazy when I can't watch Tech play. Now when someone text me saying that I'm missing the game I just say "ok". There is no energy. No pride. No heart. They remind me of teams that are looking for a place to lay down
LT isn't throwing the ball the same from throw to throw, he is fighting something, sore arm, brain mixed up on how he is supposed to throw a ball...something is up, he is killed us in the first half, at least he pitched the ball and let the runners run in the second...the pick to Dunn was off by 3 feet and it was only a 12 yard throw...it was an easy TD.
Exum better get used to seeing balls coming his way, I would throw 20+ balls at him a game if I was an OC.
HTF do you let a ball get behind you in prevent?
I'm starting to think maybe Frank has had enough. He's 66 now, and his sideline demeaner doesn't look good, team doesn't appear well coached. I like to see fire and emotion from the staff on the sideline. The team seems to make more mindless mistakes, and from guys that you don't expect. I think I would have preferred the necessary changes, namely Newsome and O'Cain, in the staff to prepare the handoff to either Bud or Shane in a couple of years. The Hokies have the pieces in place and coming to be pretty good next year, but the OL and Offensive Coordinator have to do better.
I agree to an extent. However I think if you want to compete at the highest level you need to get as many elite players as you can. You probably know more about the dynamic between the players on our team and our coaches, but I never got the sense that there was some kind of power struggle. Kids are different today than they were 17 years ago, so I'm not sure that changing the way we recruit would change the player/coach dynamic greatly.
Personally I feel like what we need is more toughness and better coaching on the OL, which is why most of us would like to see you in there coaching these kids up. If we can be physical up front and run the football then those blue-chip QBs, WRs, and RBs are damn hard to stop.
I also believe that it affects our defensive line. They aren't practicing against the kind of physical OLs they need to in the spring and fall. It seems to me that since 2007 our DL has been slow out the gate.
Usually when a QB is THAT sporadic, he is either fighting an injury, or confusion. Not knowing your reads in the passing game is an issue. That usually comes when coaches keep adding new passing routes each game. When you do that, you only have one maybe two legit days to practice them.
As far as EXUM, he is following a long list of DB's who think that they are better than what they really are. Every team will pick on him because he is good for at least 5 penalties and 8 to 10 catches. When you want all eyes on you, you will get all eyes on you. Be careful what you wish for.
The only way I can think of getting beat in "prevent" is that they are looking at the QB instead of the WR. Stop guessing and play the man
The key to every dominant team is the Offensive Line. If they go, everyone will follow suit. Trust me, there is a power struggle going on behind closed doors. The entitlement generation wants all the glory without the hard work. And it shows
I'm agreeing with you for sure. They made changes but they were half assed. Go all the way. Doing anything in life halfway will get you beat
When you listen to Frank speak, whether he's addressing the team or the media, it's the same tired, emotionless routine. He doesn't have the fire he used to have. Does that lack of energy trickle down into the team? We've lost 4 of our last 7. It's like we've gotten used to it and we accept it. I'm scared as crap about the future of our program right now.
Man I sure wish we could get a certain former Hokie to come back and coach our boys up!!!
What number was Todd Washington at VT?
IDK Papa would you happen to know?
I agree. No one actually "lost their job".
