As I have been irrevelant all nite I have decided to call it a nite and be irrevelant at home. Goodnight hokies and remember it isn't how you start the race it's how you finish.
We should know our OC by Tuesday?
Let me summarize, and somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.
Long is the most likely person to fill the position of OC for the hokies. However, he has not been offered the position, and likely will not be offered the position.
Did I miss something?
I have to think that the high interest is legit, but not necessarily because these candidates all want the job...I'm tending to believe most of the good ones, not all, want the interest known to shore up raises for themselves...
With so many openings around the country, schools are in protect mode(Stanford), while OC and position coach candidates need publicity and interest to leverage their own deals.
Take a guy like long, that has been out of the market and off radar screens, a simple call to a Bitter or Steel by themselves or their agent gets their name leaked, thus drumming up more demand.
We know Beamer wants to play this close to the vest.
I believe Long was interviewed. But I think Beamer might be looking to balance some experience with youth. So if Long doesn't get the OC offer, he might be mentioned as an option at QB coach...
I don't think we can deny he certainly could be a good position coach, meanwhile helping balance a lesser experienced OC.
Logan or successor needs someone who has been there and Long fits that bill.
I'm not giving up on the Beamer balanced staff theory.
So I remain hopeful he pulls a better regional proximity OC candidate that might not have a strong QB background or be as long in the tooth, but has a modern youthful appeal... (sorry to hijack your post)
So Long got fired as HC from SDSU and the university had to hire a consultant to figure out how to keep him from coming back on campus? Hmmm......do we REALLY want this guy in Blacksburg? I think not.
