Dude, all that matters is results on the field - and those are telling in a resume... If these soft things you talk about could hurt that, then yes, I think we all agree with you. However, the point is the soft things can't trump on field results, and to pretty much all of us, that's what a Long hire would be.
I'd take Brian Scott 100x over Long.

Agreed, but nothing about a Chuck Long screams success. He went out on his own from powerhouse Oklahoma, and failed. It''s been said that the San Diego gig was a bad one. Well I bet Temple wasn't a great gig for Golden, and he was successful. I remember a guy named Steve many moons ago that cut his teeth at Duke and has done ok. He did not choose San Diego to go out and fail. He failed, he got fired. To think even he would get a chance at being a finalist shows me where Beamer is with his thinking. While he may "gel" with current staff, he does nothing from a PR perspective with recruits and fans, who are furious and passionate for a change that makes sense to them. While we may not know the X's and O's, perception about a program from all involved can be used for, or against in today's world.
