make sense to me. All of our schollarship Qbs are duelthreat and the two we have committed are both duel threat and need work passing the ball. If we revert solely to smashmouth, won't that include taking the read-option away(regardless of whether VT's was truely a read-option) and thus half the talents of what a duel threat brings to the table? I realize that scrambling is still a good skill to have, but it just seems like with the type of QB we have, we'd be trying to fit a round peg into a square hole yet again.
You do realize that our offense was smash mouth when al clark, michael vick, bryan randall, and marcus vick were our QB right? That is the most successful offense to run. Just look at alabama and lsu for example
Yes I realize that. All i'm saying is our current personnel would seem imo to suit a spread. And sorry for the repeat of topics, I thought for sure this thread would be buried.

if we were successful recruiting OLs within our 6 hour radius I don't think we could recruit OL like Alabama or LSU
the pro set stuff we're hearing sounds very back to the future, unfortunately the game has changed... the reason we tried to pass more was because it changed... we just didn't have coaches competent enough to incorporate passing into a sensible system
decent OL + mobile QB means a solid RB can lay waste to the crap teams on the schedule
against a top DB unit we get blitzed (run and pass) to death and curl up and pray to Bud
PUKE! we've seen that movie before!
hire the coaches not the system!!! every system needs to adapt... good coaches like Bud Foster work through those adaptations
we need to hire coaches not a system
1)OC who holds himself accountable for O performance and hires his own OL and QB coaches and holds them accountable
2) develop nasty OL
3) develop QBs who can throw timing patterns, make teams pay for blitzing, read the defense, and make teams pay for using a "spy".... arm and head strength in addition to fleet feet
4) fast follow innovation with mobile QBs ... biggest nonstory in the NFL this year is Wash redskins with RG3 800+ and a 6th round pick 1600+ ... RG3 with 65% and lead league in ypa with a nondescript WR corps... I think seahawks will shut down the passing option with their DBs and bring the heat on run and pass blitzes and I think their fairytale dream will end... but bring in some better deeper WR TE corps and I think that system has real legs....
right now it just seems like our filter is system... some times the system determines the quality of who you interview....we're not Alabama, we're not LSU, but within a 6 hour radius, we have enough talent to win an MNC... gotta get good enough QB play to get a top WR... use the mobile QB to compensate for the deficient OL...can still have running game as staple of the O... but the days of a mobile QB changing the game for you are gone... or at least if that is your philosophy you'll never win the big games. JMHO... thats what Bud taught us ... lock down DBs load the box and stop the run
I know Beamer has forgotten more football than Bud ever knew, but I hope and pray Bud is a part of this interview process
black white green blue... i don't care how old they are... i want to see mobile VT QBs known as throw first NFL QBs... or QBs like RG3 who run a system that is solid in the NFL like it is in the college game... you do that and the kids will flock to play for VT
