Joe Schad - "Told ACC Commissioner John Swofford spoke w VT Prez Charles Steger in last 24 hrs. and was assured move to SEC is "non-starter."
Most likely also said NOW IF fsu leaves.................LOL
What exactly does that mean? Same as Poppycock? Same as we'll go down in a sinking ship with a Captain (Swofford) and First Officer (UNC) that could give two squirts about Virginia Tech? No one wanted us in the league in the first place...
I can't believe I am hearing this (or maybe I can)...UNLESS...that is just a tight to the vest comment like in 2003. Our administration makes me crazy.

ATL..... These people are not going to tell us all that is going on. TO me Schad or Swofford didn't give you all was said. Who knows! Someone left a post somewhere THE BIG just made itself worse(MD and RU). I thought for secone. Darn truth!
He's the bottom line...if the ship sails and we miss the boat, Steger and Weaver will all be crucified over it. They all have accomplished good things at VT, but their legacy is riding on this decision. Better not screw up.
None of this will be discussed publicly. You guys should really stop drooling over every comment made from these people. If the ACC starts to crumble, things will be discussed and a decision will be made. As of today, the ACC is still together in intact. Let this play out ffs.
That is certainly true, but there has to be some worry about when we lose that open invitation to the SEC. What if they finally come around to inviting FSU and Clemson? Those schools would probably jump at it in a heartbeat.
If I were them I might compromise on just inviting FSU. See if the fallout shakes VT out of our stubbornness.
I wouldn't rule out unc to the SEC. If things start getting bad, then Unc can pick up the pn and they are in, imo. Uva possible also. VT is gambling it seems by not going to the SEC now. Maybe they know something, but things can change in a hurry and if you are the SEC you hold no allegiance to VT. jmo Also Unc would lookout for Uva over VT or at least probable.
This is what concerns me. UNC can choose where it goes and it will want to bring UVA with it. We are relying on political pressure on UVA to ensure that they end up in the B1G and not the SEC.
Welcome to the Terror Dome, baby! Welcome to the Terror Dome!
The question you have to ask yourself is why is Swofford talking to Steger anyway? If there is nothing to any of these rumors then it shouldn't be an issue. At the end of the day this is all about business and Steger would be an idiot if he sat on his hands and let the ACC slip away from under him and leave him with nothing. If the SEC is interested then you have to at least consider it.
Bottom line, IMHO, VT better not Sit and Wait !! VT better be Looking out for VT and Their Future. Steger and Weaver are old men, They're not the in the future But They better be working for It. In Today's Landscape of College Sports, setting on your Rear won't get it . I think when and it will happen , VT will make the Moves for VT this time. To a place that will be there Home for Sports because Money and TV control College Football , not the Schools or Stadium fans But TV markets..I'm getting to the point that I'm losing interest just because of that. Been Following VT and college sports for Years but it's getting past the real meaning.
Don't know how you can say that. This whole move is about money and markets and conference tv packages. You can't look at the product or the playing field as it looks today, only the potential. That is what sells itself to bigger things (tv contracts, new big 10 markets, etc). Maryland and Rutgers both know they have little product to market currently, but with money??? That's how they see it. Big 10 sees new markets, that is it. Plus, they strengthen themselves as we march on towards a different national championship model. Now as for the ACC, anyone seeing the investment into markets for football revenues? No. Because they have Duke and UNC as a national draw for basketball. ACC basketball is all it's ever been about. Feeble attempt when we and Miami were brought in, and never forget, they did not ever want us. If Steiger said that to Swofford, he needs to be booted....
Swofford is not going to say anything bad about ACC. Nor will Steger at this time. Why would they? Behind closed doors or over the phone things might be a lil more intense. Right now I would say wait and see what FSU and CU do. Or at least let these weeks games get over. I would imagine no one wants any potential distractions.

That is all assumption based. I learned a long time ago that you have to take people at what they say. To sit around and hope that what our admin is really doing is 180 degrees opposite what they are telling Swofford is WAY too much faith. This is NOT the ACC they lusted after for all those years. SEC is a sure thing. They are risking our future security by playing chicken with VT - all this in order to buddy up to schools that didn't want us to begin with.
We owe the acc NOTHING!!
