Malone has been endorsed by both Dwight and Derrick. That's good enough for me. I just can't ignore the potential of a Todd Washington on the recruiting trail. His resume is ridiculous. If we don't get Todd maybe he could help with an o-line camp at VT. Get some former players together, maybe D Brown J Grove etc.
Chris Malone was a teammate of Derek, Dwight etc. I am not saying that he isn't a great coach and motivator, I am sure he is. Most importantly he is a Hokie, one thing Newsome wasn't. But from a straight up outside perspective standpoint it's not the right move. Recruiting is all about perception. Hiring a fired JMU O line coach to replace the OL coach we got from JMU? Just imagine what London and company will be telling Moss, etc. We need a momentum changed, a big splash. A Todd Washington.
this will be like the second time todd has expressed interest in the job i think and it's not panned out. i really just don't get why beamer won't hire him. yet JMU experiment #1 didn't work out so he is going to try #2 from JMU after being fired? i don't care if it wasn't his fault or not...the fact is he got fired. Todd on the other hand has had great success everywhere he's been.

WHat a post! Maybe we get a better one then TW? I mean I am for him to but not for UVa to beat us. LOL calm down.
With that being said I would guess a potential new OC could bring his own OLINE coach with him. Or Stiney to Oline? IMO I would like for a complete change on offense. But Stiney could be oline coach.

Festus, you DO remember when Stiney had the OL don't you? It was only marginally better thasn now and we couldn't wait to get a new OL coach. We just happened to get one that was slightly worse than Stiney in Newsome.
Oh I agree. I didnt mean to imply I want Stiney as Oline coach. Just it could happen. With Frank you know!
I know what you mean. I'm not hoping for it to happen, but i'm fully expecting it to happen haha.
I won't be upset if TW isn't hired as long as changes are still made on the offensive side. At the very least CN needs to be gone and we need a new OC. I think any OC that comes in will not tolerate the way the OL are being coached anyways.
Initially, it almost doesn't matter why he was fired. The perception is going to be used against us. Obviously, if he comes in a rights the ship, nobody will care, but INITIALLY, it's not going to go over well.
I agree on the last statement, but I think you're undervaluing the importance of the position coach in this instance. Of course the o-line coach doesn't just recruit linemen...I think it's safe to say he'll easily recruit more non-linemen, particularly off-campus. HOWEVER, the coach that is in the living room or the high school talking to a kid is going to need to talk about the position coach quite a bit---the player is going to have lots of questions and concerns about his position coach and, YES, the position coach is going to have numerous conversations with the player, and spend time with them too...particularly when we get them on campus. The position coach isn't always just "icing on the cake," and shouldn't be if we're going to get serious about Cyrus Kouanjijo and Dorian Johnson type players.
you're right. TW strikes me as the kind of guy who would question our stratagery when it makes zero sense. Can't have someone like that on the staff.
Is not a factor as far as if TW would be hired or not, Czy's post stated the TW status perfectly earlier this morning..
It would be hard for TW to make a backwards move to college football. As much as we all would love to have him he will be a NFL OL coach one day and it will be sooner rather than later.
I understand that. Of course it would be a difficult move to go from his current position back to an OL coach in college.
I was making a half joke half jab.
Malone was a 4 year starter on the VT teams that built this program in the early 90's. They were not the most talented, but they sure where nasty! Chris is a no non-sense guy and that is exactly what this team needs. I could give a shit what Mickey "Mouse Matthews did to try to save his own butt!
Chris truly understands what being a Hokie is all about and I would love to have a guy that learned from JB Grimes running our line!
