I would be happy with either Malone or Washington. How may people have the opportunity to go back to their alma mater and help turn a weakness(OL) into a strength? With the stable of young RBs VT has,the development of its OL into a strength would be huge for the team`s future success.
Chris had the OL mean and nasty. I know because I watched 3 of their games. Matthews is an arrogant chump. The running game averaged over 200 yards per game. They had QB problems that had nothing to do with the way Chris coached the OL. The kids loved him.
Bring Todd Washington home!!!
C Malone was the GA for the 2000-2001 years here at VT...He help out a lot with the technique of our OL. Granted we had Vick, and a Nasty D, but Our OL was nasty as well. We had a walk on Start at center-Schneker Sorry for the mispelling- that came out of no where and did well. Both Stiney and Malone were responsible for those Nasty lines of those years.
Virginia isn't a mecca for turning out OL and we need someone who can recruit the bruisers up front nationally!
The OL coach doesn't just recruit OL, he recruits targets at all positions in his assigned region. Yes, we need to broaden our OL net, but we won't make much hay going "nationally". There are plenty of good OL in the Eastern region from PA down to GA. We just need to snag some of them. Getting them will be more of a team effort from our entire staff than from our OL coach.
What we need most from our OL coach is a guy that demands toughness, demands excellence, and relates to players. Having a guy with recruiting ties to VA to replace one of our coaches that is leaving is simply a plus.
Let''s not overthink this. TODD WASHINGTON should be our First, Second and Third options for this job! His resume is impecable. OL regardless of who they are recruited by on our staff will want to play for him. He bleeds Orange and Maroon. He has NFL playing and coaching experience. He can relate to current young people.
Make it happen!
This might be a more realistic grassroots initiative.
He seems to be the ideal choice. The key question is whether he is prepared to make that change from the NFL to college coaching. Hopefully, going back to coach at his alma mater would be attractive to him.
pretty sure he very recently has been chomping at the bit

This is the post I was laughing at.
Excellent post. Thanks for the info, vtskin70. Sounds like just what the doctor ordered. Let's hope it comes to pass.
Somehow I think the decision-makers know just a bit more about the situation than we do.
Todd could be an OL coach in the NFL within a year or two. I think redirecting that career path to college OL coach is an enormous task. It would take a very aggressive effort.
Chris is a great guy. All Hokie. All football(w/ a great family). He'd get our OL aggressive and ready. Chris Malone is the real deal.
is there any concrete news/report/rumor that links us with malone at this point, or is this pure speculation because he was let go from JMU?

Is it going to hurt y'alls feelings when/if Todd isn't hired?
well this isn't the news i was looking for. i think he's made it pretty clear he wants to coach here and even showed interest a few years ago and was turned down. beamer and his buddies......smh....i almost wish he would take the job at UVA and then i hope their oline smashes us to death
