but I think ole Frankie Beams stepped up to the plate and hit it out of the park. No surprising really. He is very competitive, far beyond what he portrays on the sideline. He loves this university and this fan base. No doubt change is hard on him, his loyalty is what made VT what it is today, which isn't bad. However he knew he needed changes and almost made them at the end of last year. I give him credit for the way he handled this process. No knee jerk reactions, which is what many on here wanted. Also kudos to him for keeping Stiney on board. Now what many may not realize is Stiney could have taken a huge payout and hung out on the beach for a few years. But that is not his makeup. He loves VT and what this program is all about. He is a great asset to VT and had plenty of input on the new coaches. I think that speaks volumes about the kind of guy he is. I sure didnt want him recruiting against VT and that could have easily happened. So just try to enjoy the next few years and get out and support these guys!!

Beamer is a true leader! He has proven a lot with the new hires.
anything specific you can say about the new coaches?
Did Stiney have any offers to coach any where else?
Stiney easily could have gotten another job; may not have been as OC but certainly he would have landed a coaching job at a good D1 univ. I'm glad he stayed on the staff in a new role and I believe his new role is ideally suited for him.
Read the article about Stinespring in the Richmond Times Dispatch this morning (Sunday). He is a true Hokie. (Sorry I don't have link).
He's got my support.
I know potential, I was just wondering if anyone knows specifics.
First of all, I am very happy with all 3 new hires.
However, to use the phrase knee jerk reaction is not what I saw. The offense was inept for close to ten years. I bet Frank wishes he had made changes prior to last years 7-6 season.
There is no doubt he loves VT, so do all of us on this board.
Frank does not like change statement does not fly as an excuse for me when you're the Head Coach. I could say much more but will end with... oh well, better late than never.

I knew I would be down voted and that's cool, but let's deal in reality folks.
Thanks for the tidbit (as always). Very few people could be demoted and then work for their replacement; that takes someone with a lot of self confidence and no ego. Glad we got to keep Stiney as recruiting coordinator - would hate to have him recruiting against us.
I do have a question for TCB - when you showed up out of the blue on the conference realignment thread a couple months ago, and posted "War Damn Eagle"...were you referring to Loeffler and/or Grimes that long ago?
Not everyone has the same view of what reality is when it pertains to VT sports. I am glad personally changes have happend. I also choose to not live in the past because I can't change it, but I am very excited about the future..:)
I gotya pal
BLACKSBURG Frank Beamer said this week he was assistant for the second time in three years.
You missed my point on the "knee jerk" comment, or perhaps I didn't do a good job making it clearer...but I was referring to all the comments after the season ended and people knew changes were coming. They wanted it done asap and couldn't understand what was taking so long to hire coaches.
TCB...thanks, I read it the other the way. I understand what you mean now. By no means should he have rushed thru important hiring decisions, especially since VT has been the shining example of continuity.
I for one am excited. CFB did was perfect good young bright OC that can coach running backs, a great young o line coach, and a great young WR. This also will give this staff great recruiters across the board. The big one is keeping stiney. I have always have been critical as an oc but we knew he was a good coach, recruiter, and man. Kudos to CFB and CBS. I think people underestimate on this board how well regarded CFB is in college football. Good people want to work for him. I for one think that 2014 is going to be the best recruiting ever for VT. I think they will start ringing the bell!
Very nice to hear. I Truly did NOT want BS to end up at another school as he is our best asset when it comes to bringing in the goods. He will be a terrific TE coach and is a positive for the VT program. That said, the changes had to be made and it appears that they were the correct additions. Each has a positive that VT appeared to be lacking in the past few years.
The Spring Game should be interesting.
