According to Beamerball, Nicolas with a 40" vertical I really hope he explodes onto the scene this year.
It seems like this is the kid a lot of people are quietly thinking is going to be a difference maker
dude, he showed some flashes of insane ability last year. Sometimes he literally looked like a monster
And he did that with no fall spractice whatsoever. He and Gayle will make a nice 1-2 punch at DE. Not exactly sure where that leaves Wilson, cause he made some plays last year as well.
You are also leaving out Marshall who had a big year as well. Our DE's should give QB's nightmares. Add in Maddy and Hopkins in the middle and it should just be a crazy dominant line as long as they don't get cocky like they did last year and not play hard
I wonder how much he will weigh in at? I'm thinking at 240+, he would be an absolute monster, imo...
I hope so! As a DE, wasn't weight the only thing holding him back previously? Aside from the minor off-field troubles..
i was gonna say, we had the same setup last yr...
Yes with one more year under their belts...and this same group gave up only 284 ypg the last 7 games of the year...which would be good for 5th in the country.
I was very disappointed in the DL in general last year. We got gashed in the run game and weren't disruptive rushing the passer at all. The FSU game showed they had the talent to do it, but for whatever reason it wasn't consistent throughout the year. I was excited about Corey Marshall but perhaps expecting too much for only his second year. Him and Collins disappointed at that spot IMO. Dadi seems to be our most natural/disruptive pass rusher, if he can just get enough size on him I think he could start this year.
I always thought that Wilson would make a fine LB, could be just me though.
I'm going to get a bunch of flack for this, but I don't think Gayle and Collins are all that good. Gayle plays very stiff most of the time, maybe because he had to put on so much weight in college. Fans love him because he's the closest thing we've had to an NFL looking DE in a while, and he reps VT more than most so props for that. I hope he proves me wrong. Collins is what he is, probably not starting again. I do have high hopes for Marshall and Nicolas.
Gayle is pretty good but maybe not elite and good enough for the NFL. Collins can show flashes but is not consistent enough, Marshall is a do-it-all DL and Nicholas has the potential to be a first rounder.
