....would Bud be tempted to move Kyle to Whip? Any thoughts?
I'd rather see him moved to FS and leave RVD starting at the whip. I think Kendall will end up in the nickel though.
This. If we are ever hoping to land top lbs we gotta get guys like rvd/ Clarke etc on the field.
I have said before, Kendall is an awesome talent coming in for this team. However, we have some awesome talent waiting for their chance. Competition should be good.
I don't see it happening.. I think we are going to have a very good D next year if Exum stays though. Gives Bud a ton of options.
Really tough question... Hypothetically assuming Kendall was the man from day 1, and a guy we couldn't keep off the field I'd recommend Exum to FS. MAYBE Rover and Jarrett to FS, but that's what I'd do.
Or some kind of hybrid defense that kept our best players on the field... Like a constant nickel package or something like that.

Manning is still on the team BTW
It's not about where you're from, it's about what you've done..
Watching the AAA game this weekend, Kendall will come in and be our best cornerback.
Don't know... Exum became very good late in the season. But Kendall is going to be a very good one!
I hope we don't have to start Kendall and can ease him in via rotation. Macho, Flowers, even DLo all were much more effective in their 2nd seasons than in their first. Aside from the physical, what slows most young VT DB's down is the mental side of the game and Foster's complex coverages, shifting responsibilities based on offensive formations, motions and routes, etc. Kendall is a special talent but if he has to start right off the bat then VT's secondary will very likely take its lumps while he works his way up the learning curve.
Kendall is not physical enough to play the nickel CB position. He's also nowhere near the best CB on the team.
Kendall will play in nickel sets next year, but they will slide Kyle down into the nickel CB position and put Kendall at boundary/field. I think you're going to be surprised at the progression of Manning as well. He's on the small side, but he was very physical in his HS film and should be a pretty good player at the nickel position.
So hypothetically, if Kendall were the #1 cornerback and took to the defense perfectly, what would you do?
yeah, I suspect we'll see him more like we did with Hosely. In for Nickel/Dime packages but doesn't replace any of our starting CB/Safeties.
That will be one of three years he plays for VT. Better play him all we can.
Agreed that Kendall is not going to stick around very long - no need to have Ryan Williams all over again.
Watching our secondary this year, they got beat at crucial times while playing man to man. If exum is our answer god help us. To me he would be a dominate safety, Kyle was continuously getting beat on deep routs and thanks to opposing QBs sucking, very few completions.
I understand that Kendall has been playing against HS talent as opposed to college tallent but he is a true corner and is needed on the field. If we have a 5 star guys come to VT they need to play as freshman or else no more 5 star guys. My opinion of course
I think it's safe to assume Kendall plays next year. Definitely won't get redshirted. With that said, RVD and McKinnon will have whip on lock down and should definitely be on the field for early downs and running downs. If we're playing with the lead, passing situations in general, then the nickel would probably include Kyle back in his familiar role inside where he played very well last year. That's also time the coaches won't have to spend getting a new player ramped up to play that spot. I just can't see players getting moved around too dramatically next year. In 2014, when Exum and Kyle are gone, the talent will have to sort itself out to see where it all fits.
From what I have read,it seems like Exum had trouble with the mental aspects of Safety. So,CB may be his best position at this point. Kyle,on the other hand, seemed to have more trouble at CB and may be better at Safety where he can face the line of scrimmage. Just from watching the Army AA game,Kendall looks like a great cover corner. However,I want to see how he does in run support. He didn`t look too physical in that game.
Don't forget Kendall wentt up against Diggs in practice for 3 years..it's not like he hasnt seen college speed before.
Good point. Especially considering Diggs lit up college football this year as a true freshman. Kendall playing in the all-american game, along with his camp performances against the best of the best, I'd say he's a little more prepared than the average freshman we land.
Folks itt don't seem to like the hypothetical question...
The question is who would be pushed out of a starting spot in the reshuffle if it were to happen? Bonner?
Riley tookes and frye will also be competing. Imo the only locks are exum at cb andjarrett at rover. Then i like kyle or frye at fs. Bonner improved and fits well in the nickel imo.
I don't believe that Exum, Kyle, or Jarrett lose their spot to Kendall, Bonner may but I doubt Kendall will start. He will probably play nickel back on 3rd and long situations.

Totally agree. I was wondering if he was being a little tentative to avoid injury or something. I def noticed that.
Play kendall at field corner and Kyle at nickel CB in certain situations/against spread teams. Kyle is a really good nickel corner, plus its good to have him around the ball because he's one of our best tacklers.
