And He had No connections with VT before he was Hired, Who do you think he would Keep off of this present staff. minus the 3 that are gone. Been wanting to poise this question to the Hokie Nation and see what you think. ME, right now, 3 , maybe four. I'll post my answer later and will be fair and will not change my group. Enjoy...
Think it would depend on who was hired an our their system fit with our current systems. If the D stayed the same, I could see two coaches being retained there and one on offense.
Bud, Torrian, Shane, and Wiles. Those are easily our most valuable coaches.

Torrian, Bud, Cornel, and Stiney.
At this point in time, what has Shane done to prove that he is one of our most valuable coaches?

Bud, Gray, Cornell, Stiney
Best recruiter on staff. Has brought ideas that have improved our entire recruiting process.
Yes but recruiting will only take you so far ask Texas
And you list Stiney on yours? He's been a below average position coach his entire tenure.
Exactly. He's a great recruiter but has that has nothing to do with coaching ability.
Stiney is a great recruiter and you list Shane solely because of recruiting. Seems fair to me.
Newsflash but recruiting is very high on the list of job responsibilities for a position coach. The question was who do you keep.
Curt Newsome has hurt Stiney
Offensive rankings before Newsome
Offensive rankings after Newsome
He bashed Shane on my list because I used recruiting in my criteria then he listed Stiney on his. If you don't see the irony in that, then I don't know why I'm even discussing anything with you.
I could flip that? Maybe CBS killed to O?
I think you've provided scoring offense rankings which are MUCH MUCH better overall than our total offense rankings, indicitive of good defense and field position.
Keep off? My guess is Stiney, Shane, Wiles...but it wouldn't work that way because you would have a hard time keeping anyone if more than 1 was jettisoned off.
Enough with Stiney being a below average position coach. He was the OL coach the last time we could call our line worth a shit 1998-2000
I agree...I've seen him coach. The players are respond to him. The OL was physical and tough minded. Ask the OLD OL guys that played for him. Now as the OC He is not good; otherwise, we would have been better. We would have seen obvious adjustments that consistently work. I think people just want to bash somebody and he is the easiest one to blame. Put him in as just position coach and give him more time to recruit...and I know you'll see better results on the field and on signing day. I've seen him and heard him on the phones, he's a very likable guy on the recruiting trail.
Everybody Gone but, Foster, Wiles and Grey. Keep Stiney in Cav's job and let the rest Go. New Coach doesn't need a Beamer. The Question was "he had No Connections with VT". Most of the time when a New Coach takes over, he lets Everybody Go. By the way, None of this type of thing will happen at VT unless Frank Beamer truly screws up in the next two years. But It's great to see all of the answers.
Jim Harbaugh or someone he has brought along. ANother way of putting it............A Harbaugh type! Stanford kicking USC's ass 4 years in a row is GREAT! GT beating SC was great.
And once Grimes players left, Stinesprings lines sucked. He sure has his defenders around. You would think the guy walked on water, but as a coach he is terrible, every position he coaches has regressed and been a liability. I just dont see all this love for him. Let him go to another school and help ruin them.
I haven't looked at any other posts, but a lot of this would depend on who VT would hire. I would assume we'd hire an offensive oriented head coach. I couldn't see us going and hiring somebody like Grantham or a Stoops, because we're good on defense. So that coach would want to keep Bud Foster and his entire staff, assuming they'd want to stay, and then bring in his own offensive staff. Shane Beamer would be the only offensive coach that could possibly be retained. Stiney is a good motivator and recruiter, but I can't see an incoming offensive head coach keeping a guy that was an OC for a decade on board...
For example, say we went out and got a guy like Chad Morris or Pep Hamilton. I am sure they'd be more than happy to pair their offensive systems up with Bud Foster's defense. And I'm pretty sure they'd like a guy like Shane Beamer who is a young gun on the recruiting trail. Maybe Beamer would be the special teams coach. I don't think Stinespring would be an awful loss on the recruiting trail if we kept Shane Beamer, Cornell Brown, T Gray and then had the guy who has run Clemson's or Stanford's offense taking over and going to recruit the 757. Something tells me the athletes out there would be happy to play in those systems, since they are successful.
If Foster decided to move on or retire, I could see Gray getting a shot at the DC job under a new coach, mainly because any offensive coach coming to VT would want Bud Foster's defense. If Gray got the DC job, I could see Brown staying to coach the DL and possibly Shane moving to defense, if not RB's or special teams (didn't he coach Whips and Rovers at USCe?)
Anyway, all this is really pointless.
Welcome to the Terror Dome, baby! Welcome to the Terror Dome!
Not much on a message board that Is Not pointless . And I notice Some might Not have read the question correctly. NEW COACH, nothing more, nothing less, Just having some open thoughts . And some fun, IMHO. And I liked alot of your Response... hokieZ71.......
If the new coach had no Beamer connection I think Bud is at another school, IMHO.
Sigh, nobody is saying he walks on water. He sucked as an OC but its flat out ignorant to say that every position he's coached has regressed. His lines up until about the '05 season were still pretty darn good and the OT's that he coached this season were the lone bright spot on the oline this year.
