I know SG was a dick, but it just seems that the way this all went down has really set things back for us. He should have fired him earlier in the offseason, so that we could have had a more thourough coaching search. Not that I dont think or hope that JJ will be successful. I also think that he was the best coach available at the time that we were looking. If Weaver handled it any better, we would had more options and time to look.
When you are down to 6 undersized scholarship players running an up tempo offense this is what you get. This is a mess left by Seth Greenberg that will take 2-3 seasons to correct.
I agree, to an extent. It is a mess left by Seth and Weaver. Harrell didnt change his commitment until SG got fired, so we would have had at least one more body to throw in there.
You are seriously still mad about that! Lol
Had Greenberg not been fired we wouldn't be down to 6 undersized scholarship players... but yet you blame Greenberg for something he didn't do... laughable logic
I have no idea how you reach your conclusions unless its Weaver is a friend of mine or Greenberg is a **** therefore I blame him for nothing or blame him for everything
or you're that crowd that says he was mean and cursed at his boss therefore must go... therefore we fire him a month prior to matriculation allowing the players to transfer and find other scholarships so that we end up with a joke of a team... but its ok because VT alums don't use logic much and will blame the mean spirited Greenberg
Just messin with you but, the program was a mess, greenberg took the program as far as he could, all the assistants were leaving, Greenberg was looking to leave, weaver didn't handle it perfectly, but I am happy with JJ, everyone knew this year would be rough and it actually hasn't been as bad as a lot thought, I still have an autographed pic of Greenberg on my "hokie wall" and don't plan to take it down, he did great things for the program, it was just time for a change
I definitely dont disagree that change was warrented. I personally felt that he took the program as far as he could have. I just dont like the timing and reasoning of the firing. Weaver used petty bs as his reasoning. He should have just said I felt it was time to try another avenue. Fire the guy right after our last game and Im perfectly happy with the firing.
If Greenberg was retained we wouldn't have the leading scorer in the country
I agree weaver handled it pretty horribly and I bet most hokies would agree however I think the future is bright with coach JJ, now go have a beer!
If Seth had stayed we would have Harrell and DFS and would be a pretty darn good team.
We had some great talent the years greenberg was here. His coaching was awful. How quickly people forget.
...but no Green.
We'd likely be the 69th best team in the country again if he coached it.
I'n not sure that Seth would have been axed if he hadn't begged for it. He knew it would come and he knew that we would be in a bit of a fix. Weaver just reacted the way he had to. Now if Seth doesn't do a better job then he could easily have been taken out on a timetable more suitable to our origram.
Seth got what he deserved and I'm willing to give our coach a respectable time period to get our team turned around. I'm am not counting this year as a year towards doing it either.
Sometimes you have to take one step back to take two steps forward. Depending on if there is attrition or not Tech is only losing Green and gaining 5 players giving JJ more flexibility.
Given Seth's personality there is zero possibility that there was a good way to handle it. Firing Seth was going to be ugly.
Even if that was true and they stayed, our record right now would have been NO better than what it is now. We always lost games with SG we had no business losing. No matter the talent, every season ended the same (NIT).
How do you say this? DoeDoe was transferring no matter what and had Greenburg stayed around, Wood would not be here. Wood was all but gone when JJ convinced him to stay. So, I really don't see how we aren't down in numbers either way.
You are way out of touch with reality.
We've got a new offensive staff, Weaver is going to be on my good side for a while. At least until realignment comes up again
