In my opinion, half measures just won't cut it. This late in his career, Frank just doesn't want to rock the boat in any way that would make things uncomfortable for him. The last series of changes to bring in Shane and Cornell were ok, but not the type of moves as teams like Clemson and Florida have made to bring in elite coaches. For all of the recruiting praise Shane gets, he never moved Ole Miss or South Carolina significantly up the recruiting flag pole in their respective conferences.
Option 1 - Although based on CZY comments about Bud keeping Stiney around doesn't seem like this will be possible
Frank: retires after this season
Stiney: Gone, replaced by Tony Franklin
O'Cain: Gone, replaced by TF's choice
Newsome: Gone, replaced by TF's choice or Todd Washington
Sherman: Stays if ok with TF, otherwise gone
Shane: Stays if ok with TF, otherwise gone
Bud: Takes over as head man
Torrian Gray: Steps in as DC
Wiles: Stays where he is
Cornell: Stays where he is
Option 2 - This is the longer shot, but would be my first choice
Step 1. Bring in Art Briles as head coach and to develop the offensive staff, make Bud the highest paid coordinator in college football
Step 2. Increase ticket prices by $5 per game, 50% of which would go directly into a recruiting fund to lease two private aircraft for coaches to quickly and efficiently make visits and the other 50% to cover the increased coaching salaries.
Newsome and Hite should be gone.
after that there are a couple options i'd be ok with.
a) Simply replace Newsome with an accomplished OL coach who has a reputation for player development and ties in our recruiting footprint. Unless I could make a major hire (friedgen?) I would put the AHCSA salary into the recruiting budget.
b) Stiney to the OL with a lot of input from our new OC. Sherm/Shane stay the same and the OC can make their own decision on Ocain. The new OC has full control of the playcalling. Beamer can decide whether or not we go on fourth down or 2pt conversion but the OC makes the playcall.
c) New OC who brings own staff but keeps Sherman at WR's and can find a place for Stinespring (te's) and Shane (stC).
The next option would be an entire new offensive staff, Im as frustrated as anyone but i think the risk of that outweigh the rewards. I simply want to keep the productive members of our staff and replace the deadwood.
