I just want to help everyone realize VT and Frank's issues here.
-We are a Defensive Football School. That is not a bad thing at all, but with only 85 permitted scholarships you can only be a master of one or a jack of 2 today in college football.
-We aren't in a real desirable geographical location.
- Offensive linemen aren't in Virginia. You must go out of state to get a good crop year in and year out.
-We are only paying between $350,000 and $500,000 for an OC. TE coaches in the SEC make that.
-Our head coach will only be here for 4 more years. That means in 4 years our OC will be out looking for another job. Buy a house and tell the bank that!!! haha
-Our Past OC is still on staff. Not a big deal to us because we know he is a great guy and loves VT and will do whatever is best for the school, however these new OC's may not think that.
-Our HC's son is the RB's coach. Again how much power this new guy has and how much he thinks up front he will have could def be different.
- Your wife wouldn't like living in Blacksburg and neither will this person's wife.
-So that means we either need to find someone with some age that would like to be in Blacksburg or someone young as hell and up and coming and if he's successful he will be gone in 2 years.
Now your Frank who the hell are you going to get? He's working his tail off round the clock, but he has to make sure he gets a round peg in a round hole. I don't envy the man.
Not coming across as rude I hope but these changes should have been when Frank had TEN years left to coach. You can take up for him all you want but his hires have hurt VT. Now the point about being a Def. School. Well that is a good one. All most on here want is something that is a look of an offense. Not one that doesnt block, Cant execute simple things. Maybe here is the answer. Frank needs to retire and let someone else takeover. Tough to say it but I see him not fixing this at all.
No doubt there are a lot of challenges, but this doesn't quite square with the information we've been told about the "overwhelming interest" in the position. Is it just that most of the people who express interest aren't really truly interested?
You heard same thing I did. ALot of interest from some. Then Doc says not as much. Crazy!
Whoa guys I didn't say there wasn't tons of interest. Ya'll are putting words in my mouth. I just said it has to be a perfect fit.
Come on Festus....can't be that hard to say......you must have said it 10 times in the past 24 hours.
AND, will you get a horse and quit riding that damn mule!!
I know. It just bothers me I see alot of excuses coming out of Blacksburg. Also things that just bother me about Beamer. The way he does business compared to how others would. SOme of it probably ok but other things not promoting the product. Man I have to see him hit a homerun because I have indeed lost it for him. But I will take your advise and move on. sorry for rants!
A lot of bogus info there.
-85 scholarships are plenty to be good at both offense and defense. Maybe not dominant at both, but dominant at one and very good at the other. Comes down to efficient practice time and structure more than scholarships anyway.
-Its been made clear we would pay big money for the right guy. More than $500K
-A good OC isn't worried about having to go OOS to get linemen. A good OC can go recruit them
-There is no timetable on Beamer's retirement. Maybe 4 years, maybe more if we are winning...maybe less if we dont win.
-Stinespring is highly respected amongst the coaching ranks. Most of them would probably want to retain him for his recruiting connections.
-See above for Shane Beamer as well. Dude recruits his arse off, and good OC's like good players.
-Blacksburg is widely regarded as one of the best places to live in the entire country. Don't know where you pull that crap from, unless you're wife can't live outside of a metropolis.
Look, there are certainly going to be challenges to getting top flite OC's to Blacksburg...because a bunch of other elite schools as well as the NFL are the competition. But we can do better than guys who haven't had real success in almost a decade.
If we can't land a guy who is currently successful at the BCS level, take a chance on a successful guy at a lower level like Clemson did with Morris. Don't go with a guy who hasn't been relevent in serveral years...because there is a good chance that guy has fallen behind in the game.
So much wrong with this post...
Lets look at the positives for why its a good job:
- Coach for the winningest active head coach in CFB
- Coach across from the man, the myth, the legend, Buddy Foster (a good defense obviously makes it easier on the offense)
- We have had the talent to be great on offense in the past, and it hasn't happened for reasons which we have discussed ad naseum
- We have been told that we were willing to pay appropriately for a legitimate OC.
- We are THE program in the state, and the best program in the mid-atlantic, providing plenty of recruiting opportunity to put together a good OL
- DESIRABLE geographic location. Near a lot of talented players. Beautiful place and a great place to raise a family.
- The head coach will only be here for 4 more years. That means that in 4 years the OC may have a chance to take over.
- Our best recruiters are staying on the staff.
We have been a competent OC away from returning to the national championship on more than one occasion in the last 10 years. A talented OC could come here and be the missing ingredient to win it all. These are the reasons why there reportedly is a lot of interest in the position, and these are also the reasons why we can't let VT or Frankie Beams off the hook if we make a bad hire. There is NO EXCUSE for not making a good OC hire.
I have not seen any word coming out of Blacksburg let alone "alot of excuses".
Thus why we should jump to the sec. More money coming in and ability to be top notch
You sound like such a whiny loser Doc. You make this many excuses for everything in life?
Every premise you mention is absolute bs
Alabama's OC Nussmeier made 590k last year, so that is just wrong...
Bobo (UGA) - 335k
Feel free to look up the other ones but their TE coaches are not making that much, their OCs are though.
Lot of spinning going on after number 1 went down in flames
Just told me that VT is not willing to do what it takes to win. There are alot of young coches out there that would love the opportunity,to be in Blacksburg, Frank just wants someone to kiss his ass ,effing pitiful I have supported and given to this team for years and this is what we get
As people have already stated, this post is BS... Pretty much every point is false.
And I would state that Beamer being old is a positive, as long as he is finally willing to give full reign to an OC. A young guy can come in here with an opportunity to be a HC at a big time school in a few years.
