During the expansion madness of a year ago I believe that we did indeed have an offer to join the SEC. There was just too much evidence coming from too many credible sources for it not to be valid. Like it or not, I believe our fortunes are connected at the hip to UVA. Hoo fans are always talking about being separate from us and " not letting the door hit you in the a$$" on the way out but that is essentially just a bunch of fans talking. You have to consider the political reality of this situation. Whether voluntary or involuntary UVA fronted for us to get admission into the ACC which had been a goal of ours for at least 50 years. There is no way that the administration of VT would just take the first thing smoking out of the conference without any idea what would become of UVA in the process. VT is probably hoping that the UVA to the Big 1G overtures are true as that would provide them with a very convienient out but I doubt that there is anything really going on. So the truth of the matter is that if UVA doesn't go anywhere then neither do we.
Disagree. If some other teams jump from the ACC (GT, FSU, CU, ect.) VT will jump as well. It won't matter what UVA is doing. There is no loyalty is this era, it's every man for themselves. The way the landscape keeps changing, you have to look out for yourself.
Honestly, I don't believe any of this stuff until it actually happens. Too much drama, politics, and bad information flying around to trust much of what we hear.
I know I'm probably in the minority on this, but I am really getting tired of all this conference expansion debate. Obviously I want VT to end up in the best possible conference situation, and I hold no loyalty toward any particular conference. But I'm really growing weary from the multiple years of rumors and backstabbing. To me this whole topic of conference expansion removes any pretense of college athletics being about tradition and amateur student athletes. I'm not naive; I realize money has always been a huge element of college sports, but I guess I enjoyed the illusion. Sorry for the rant.
So do I HKC, so do I.
No rant , just the damn truth. I'm like you on what it has taken away from College Sports as we once knew it. I have a little age on me now and I have been fortunate to live close to VT and take in the sports for over 50 years ,I can walk away and Know I seen things when it was College Sports. And I will...
