David Watford seems to be a young man of character and a real competitor. Lets not forget that as a true freshman he was given every chance to compete for the starting job. I really don't think that anyone expected Rocco to mature and progress like he did as the season went on. Rocco was just to much for a true freshman to overcome at the time.
Now this fall you add Phillip Sims to the mix. How do you turn him away? Keep in mind that the main issue with Watford is accuracy. His passing accuracy last year was in the 40% range. During spring and fall camps Watford showed improvement but still had accuracy issues. Rocco and Sims displayed much better accuracy. In fact it has been reported by coaches and observers that Sims has "Tremendous" downfield accuracy. Accuracy is a must and it is just not there yet. A redshirt year might give this young man the time to fix that and to compete more effectively.
You can be the face of the program in many ways. But, on the football field, under center, you have to be able to put the football on the money.
you went to UVA??? "Rocco was just too much for a true freshman to overcome at the time."
No I did not. Just a fan. Spelling however was not the topic of this thread. David Watford is. Hopefully I was able to give you some insight from a UVA fans perspective.
