I'm not sure what this means, and I'm not sure I like it.
Division II OL coaches?
Malone or Washington sound good to me. I will admit. I am in favor of a new o-coordinator. One that puts up some points. If Buds D takes a hit cause were putting 30+ points on the board, so be it. I don't know how many guys a coordinator would bring with him, but he should have a say in who the next o-line coach is.
That being said. I think the multiple offense under Stiney would look completely different with a change in line play. Alot of missed blocks by both the line and receivers this year. I would love for VT to become a destination for o-linemen. A place that all recruits need to consider. Right now I feel our o-line rep kinda hurts us in recruiting. I could be wrong. Lets find the right coach and pay accordingly. Line play separates the Joes from the schmoes in this game.
It's interesting how we concede that by hiring a guy like Tony Franklin would automatically put a ton of pressure on Bud's D. Looking at La Tech's stats, their per game time of possession is just under 28 minutes while VT's time of possession is about 31 minutes. I'll trade having Bud's D out on the field 3 more minutes per game for the offense scoring almost twice as many points. Last I checked, VT averaged over 26 points per game this year while La Tech averaged over 51 points per game.
I'm just conceding to the folks who know a whole heckuva lot more then me. I'd be lying if i said the thought of Franklin/Foster didn't excite the hell outa me. Franklin/Malone/SEC. Holy ish!
