Maryland projects to pocket $12 million more their first year in the BIG, 2014-2015, than they would have in the ACC, and that difference is projected to increase annually. I don't see anyway that a future ACC can provide the revenue that the other BCS conferences will pay out
The University of Maryland stands to make nearly $100 million more in conference revenue by 2020 with its switch from the ACC to the Big Ten, according to projected revenue information presented to the school by Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany, SI.com has learned.
Is that you Jim Weaver?
All jokes aside, the BIG 10, SEC and Big 12 are gearing up to expand their television markets. And ESPN has the ACC hog tied with a mediocre deal and making 12 million less than any BIG 10 school. It's realllllllly easy to see that kind of math. But schools also see a 50 million dollar buyout if Maryland loses its court case. But ultimately I think that will just delay what is inevitable.
it sounds like the SEC & UNC are honing in on each other, not the B1G.... UVa & GaTech sound B1G bound...
the other word swirling is pontentially UNC & Duke to the SEC together & an eastern footprint, that would most certainly inclue VaTech to the Big 12...
but nobody seems to have a great pulse on if that second school would really be Duke. I think people "assume" UNC & Duke are tied together but VaTech is definitely in the mix....
personally, I want UNC/VaTech all day, every day, no Duke.
For one VaTech is just a perfect fit in the SEC, would love to share a league with you & just flat out prefer you over Duke for many reasons but another is I am in the opinion of that you just don't hand over that much football to the Big 12, potentially giving them FSU, Clemson, Miami & VaTech?? Then the Big 12 could save the last two spots to one day possibly coax Notre Dame & someone else, NCState probably....
bad move by the SEC imo. I think you invite UNC, if they say Duke must come then invite NCState/VaTech instead.
But expansion is coming, & soon, after the Maryland results which is February 18...
hope you guys join us.
IF Duke goes to the SEC that would be absolutely idiotic. Why would the SEC take 2 schools in the same state of NC? If they were going to take a second school in a state which they all ready have a school why wouldn't you take Clemson or FSU. Sorry Duke to the SEC makes absolutely no sense. Duke would never win a game in the SEC and they would never become bowl eligible again.
If I was the SEC I would take NC State/VT and call it an expansion.

SEC does want UNC before STate. There is no doubt about that. IMO UNC knows they fit in BIG 10 more. But they also probably fear STATE in SEC. Who knows but I can see the B1G taking DUKE to get UNC. Dunno about SEC. If they do I would imagine they go to 18. I cannot see the SEC not getting the VA market. Would UVa come in the pic before VT? Just because UNC and Duke? Maybe some of guru's can give us their thinking. UNC expanded that stadium a lil time back. It wasn't thinking just ACC. Am I right?
What I think is a big issue outta of BIG 12 is that Texas does not want expansion. Just what are the Horns up to for the future? Maybe Ranger can give us some info there.

Kenan was only increased to 60K, hardly SEC size. It's my understanding that the expansion was promised as part of Butch coming on board.
Ok that was something I had not heard. Thanks!... LOL 60,000 is BIG 10 size though!
Sorry, it appears I was a bit off on both. I looked at the wrong Kenan page evidently, the last expansion was from 60K to 63K (62,980 to be precise).
And evidently the promise was made to the boosters that Butch would be retained as head coach if they ponied up the $ for the expansion (which evidently some are now looking to sue to get their money back)
Clearly we underestimated the value of two straight Meineke Car Care Bowls. But Butch Davis is something of a hero in Chapel Hill, where he took the Tar Heels from mediocrity to ACC Success, which we remind you is not the same as actual success.
The question is this, does UNC and Duke add enough to not expand TV coverage into Virginia? The would be adding 1 TV market but in doing so add 2 of the 4 real BBall schools in the nation, and give them 3 of the 4 with Kentucky.
Which is a bigger win, adding the VA market or getting UNC and Duke? I know nothing about if this is real but I can see UNC trying to bully their way into the SEC, and they know a VT in the SEC would always have an advantage over them, but if they were in the SEC and we were not they could cherry pick VA's top recruits.
I`m not so sure UNC would push for the SEC. The university presidents drive the process. After UNC`s issues with the Butch Davis regime and its violations,Carolina`s image was tarnished. They take pride in "being above" other universities. Add to that very wealthy alumni that also have this view and will pressure the president to move,if they decide to move,to a conference that represents their self image(Big 10). Finally,UNC is and will always be a basketball focused school. After the debacle of Butch Davis, any possibility of a heavy focus on football disappeared.
In the crazy world of conference realignment,UNC may end up in the SEC. But,I don`t think the push will come from them for that.
I agree. I also think most of these schools want ACC to make it. Why? Cause I cannot see UNC/DUKE and even uVA wanting to go somewhere else and be a small fish in a very BIG pond. Now these 3rd tier rights might move and FSU. If so we will see but I for some reason feel UNC wants their league. That is the ACC.
