Always been a good recruiter, too bad for him his coaching does not seem to equal his recruiting.
Beatty has been little more than a prick to VT much less a thorn in VT's side
The problem is he cant deliver
Deliver or not he has stolen some recruits that we wanted. Also, helped have 757 talent leave the state!

LT is the only one I can remember.
Not to be argumentative, but which recruits has Beatty taken?
Not one player who committed to WVU had a VT offer and very few had UVa offers. Alston, Spain, Davenport, the list goes on. Some may debate on Logan Heastie, but the fact remains that VT would have never accepted his commitment after the garbage that went on late in his recruitment. It's not our fault that Lafante T decided to make a ridiculously stupid choice. He paid for that choice. That's the only player that Beatty ever received a commitment from that had a VT offer.
Beatty recruited the following players who committed elsewhere.
- Bucky Hodges
- Taquan Mizzell
- Dominique Terrell
- Conner Davis
- Evan Hailes
- Justin Hunter
- Brian Laiti
- Zack McCray
- Mark Shuman
- Phillip Sims
- Chase Williams
- Travis Williams
- Jerod Askew
- Telvion Clark
- Antone Exum
- Quintin Hunter
- Morgan Moses
- Theron Norman
- Bryn Renner
- Tim Smith
- Damian Thigpen
- Logan Thomas
The dude is hated in the Beach area and while he has this aura of being a great recruiter - he's actually nothing more than an 110% fraud. He's never had any real success in the Commonwealth and he never will.
You can make a similar list for any coach in the country, the success rates for any recruiter are very low. But the ones that you are able to get to sign are the ones that make your reputation. His 2009 WVU class of Spain(3 star) , Alston (3 star), Davenport (3 star), Heastie (4 star) and Long (4 star) would be considered good to great at most programs. The one that burns the most is the LT to Vandy on signing day. That one could come back to bite us should Leal transfer and LT get dinged up or should LT go early and Leal get dinged up. I agree he is smooth talker, but when the subjects are 18 years old, sometimes that it is more of tell them what they want to hear than tell them the facts and hope they make the best choice. I'm most concerned about the next one he gets not the last one!!!!

I always forget Leal was probably more upset LT had a bad year than the rest of us,
Tough to be a talented backup QB in today's game. Lot's of people in your ear!!!
I guess the point we are trying to make is that you said he landed some recruits that we wanted , when actually we only lost one head to head battle. And that was an insane last minute flip.
How many in the WV class were we hard after though, thats a pretty crap list if you ask me. Leal is not going anywhere, he is in line to start and looks like he is gonna be a good one. Is LT even a QB anymore?? I thought he got switched to RB or DB because he got crushed on the depth chart. Doesnt matter anyway Leal >>>> LT, I think if he did come here he would be listed as 3rd QB but playing DB or RB here as well
We don't know how much of his BS steered some of the others away even though they may chosen another school. He was known for feeding the kids a bunch of BS and it is hard to know how much of that stuck with the 18 yr. olds he was feeding it too. I know for a fact that there was a lot of negative VT recruiting spewing from his mouth. And it cannot be dismissed that he can recruit, he helped Ill. get verbals from a 4 star QB and several 3 star players just this year. While only one was from our recruiting area (DC), he is still capable of coming into our back yard and stealing another kid. Next time it may the difference maker we needed to take the next step. I just hope his coaching career keeps him moving away not closer.
Lt transferred to jmu
Ha, I missed that, I guess thats point right there. Do you happen to know if they moved him back to QB or left him elsewhere?
I didn't look hard, but his JMU profile had him listed as a QB
That is correct, part of his decision to transfer was to have a shot at playing QB.
That one still pisses me off. I'm fine with kids having a change of a heart, but not on signing day and not to a sleezeball like Beatty. I also remember watching Vandy's signing day behind the scenes video and Coach Franklin and the staff celebrating after Lafonte faxed his letter in saying how glad they were that they stole one from VT.
