Saying you have a limited view is an insult? Hardly.
Not really. His writings have exposed him for who he is and how he thinks. I have no respect for someone who thinks like that who insults other freely. His opinion of me is no insult, regardless of how much vitriol he may wish to heap upon me.
His opinion is basically VT is small time and we should "know our place". Go through the great leader's not just in football, but in any walk of life, and show me ONE, just ONE that shares that kind of limited mindset.
Sorry, but VT has come to far for those with limited visions and drive to stop us from achieving ever greater things, on the field, in the classroom, via resarch, the corp of cadets on the battlefield. VT is one of the fastest rising institutions of higher learning over the past 20 years in the entire country.
Anyway, the latter of JLM's three options was by far the worst...

You long ago lost any incredibility you started with.
Right now, you are digging in trying to defend the indefensible.
If you look at the link from VT2ODU, those revenue numbers include contributions. So we generated $1M more than Clemson each year. We have just as much money as they do to spend.
But the point that you make that irks me, is that you don't think we are deserving of a good coordinator from a BCS school. That is what Loudon was referring to. We have a lot going for us, and we should be able to pay a competitive salary as well to attract top coaching talent. Paying for a good coordinator is an investment. When you win games, people buy more tickets and contribute more money, so in effect it pays for itself.
Your post is worded in such a way that any Hoo would be proud to call it their own. "Regardless of the vitriol he may wish to heap upon me" *read in a shakespearean voice*
Coming to grips with what we are able to do financially as a football program has nothing to do with one's vision for our University. Understanding that we are not Alabama, Michigan, Ohio State, Texas, or Florida has nothing to do with a limited vision, it is called REALITY!
Frank Beamer already accepts a smaller salary than what he deserves so that we can afford better salaries for his assistants... once again, I'm dealing in absolutes.
Some of you are correct, Clemson's budget isn't that much more than ours however, within the I athletic budget, they can afford to pay their assistants 1 million a piece... we can't and again, that is a reality
I was not wrong on other BCS Programs, when it comes to coaching contracts we can't compete with many in the SEC,B1G, Pac-12, and even Big-12. That gap will only grow as we transition from the current BCS into the playoff system.
Let's Be clear, when Coach Beamer, who many of you have thrown under the bus leaves, this issue only gets worse because your not as likely to find someone like him who is willing to sacrifice for the good of the program.
So, this has nothing to do with a "limited vision!" It has everything to do with understanding who you are and the resources you have to work with. You can't buy a 500k house when you have 300K to work with... that's not being short sited, that's having common sense.
Does that mean we can't win a national title? No, but it does mean we face an uphill battle. I'm sorry that's such a bitter pill for some of you to swallow, but it is the reality of the situation.
The reality of the situation is that Great Britain has the strongest empire/navy/military in the world and if they want to rape us with taxes then we just have to grab our ankles.
The reality of the situation is the American South will always have slavery and they just aren't going to give that up Mr. Lincoln.
We would be quite a different world if everybody who ever wanted to do anything great caved to the "reality of the situation".
Again, please stop with your myopic ramblings about the extent of our University's capabilities.
oh and 1 more thing I'm the 1 who's short sited when I say we don't have enough money to hire a top coordinator meanwhile our administration insist on staying in the ACC instead of considering an offer from the SEC

Good debate. I'll leave it for others to judge who made sense and who embarrased themselves.
well thank you! They don't have the option for a "dismissive wanking smiley" so I improvised
